Q:
Do they have gluten free toast or pancakes?

Q:
After the new ownership, things certainly changed. Have they gone back to the excellent food and service they were known for?
A:
Probably not. We were die hards for Oakland Grill for many years. This business was sold back then and the new owners actually told me they weren't going to change anything, but we know how that went. One slice in an order of toast, really? I'm sure… more

I've been coming to this place for at least 7 years and IMO they don't miss! They've changed management and switched up the menu a bit, but likely they didn't change anything about the breakfast, which is what I usually come for anyway. It's quality diner food at a decent price for the Bay Area and they're extremely consistent.
I love it here.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Dec 16, 2023
Street Parking but, it's not hard to find. Restaurant located on the street corner, looks like an industrial area, but it's busy with dogs & people walking around every & of course it's probably because of Down Town Square
Super friendly service as soon as you walk in. Service with a smile & a great attitude, will keep you going back not only for the service but the food was really tasty w/there own yummy flavors. Wait for a party of 5 was no longer then 10mins (YAY) for a sat after noon.
They have upstairs seating, outside seating (minimal) & a lot of room inside & it gets pretty packed & stays busy.
Got seated & waited longer then we'd liked, but we looked down & our server was also the greeter & person taking payment, so we were patient until he came to take our order. Does not disappoint because service for the food was also pretty fast considering them being hella busy.
Will definitely be back to try other items on the menu, if we are ever in town.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Brittani K.Oakland, CA2953049Nov 16, 2023
The house potatoes at Oakland Grill are a real treat, especially with the creamy sour cream on top - it adds a delicious touch to every meal. But let's talk about their fresh squeezed orange juice - it's simply perfect, super refreshing with that pure orange flavor. Do yourself a favor and order with any meal. The other food items such as the pancakes, French toast, or breakfast meats are all pretty average.
I have ate in-person once but I usually order to-go. The service is also average, they usually take my phone order and it's ready within 20minutes, very straight forward. The establishment is very homey, laid back, and located in jack london square near a warehouse area. They typically are busy for breakfast/brunch.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Lanuola G.CA, CA069Apr 28, 2024

After a few years away, I recently revisited the Oakland Grill, having moved out of the area. My journey took me back while spending time at Jack London Square, and I chose to stop by around 1:30 PM, post the usual weekend rush. Despite its considerable seating capacity, the place tends to be bustling during weekends, but we found the timing perfect for our visit. It appears the Grill has undergone some updates since my last visit, with a refreshed, clean, and interior catching my eye. Although creating my own omelette wasn't listed as an option on the menu, the accommodating staff made it happen for me. The food exceeded my memories of it, and the service was commendable.

A testament to its popularity, there's frequently a queue stretching out the door, inspiring us to time our visits during quieter hours. The breakfast offerings here are delightful, complemented by the warm, efficient service and the prompt arrival of our delicious meals. It's always a highlight for us to visit this eatery whenever we're nearby.

It's a pretty good lil' local breakfast eatery here in Oakland. The waitress who I always have the good fortune of encountering has been there EIGHTEEN (!!!) years, and her dedication shows. They're one of the few spots that knows how to make my order perfectly, taking only a head nod as a description. They're also one of the few spots who understand what "well done" means in the realm of omelettes--perfectly browned without that pesky, weird runniness some breakfast spots (that shall not be named) are all about.
You may or may not have had the delicious Homemade Café in Berkeley (and I am not tryna plug one breakfast spot in my review of another breakfast spot, but I'm just a breakfast-y person and am doing this all for your benefit), but if you have you know about their sour cream and salsa accompaniment to their breakfast potatoes. While they may not offer fresh salsa, Oakland Grill definitely offers that dollop of sour cream for your 'taters on the side. Coupled with the extra avo I had in my omelette and the table-side TapatÃo, it was a straight party, folks.
If you're in the area, it's definitely a worthwhile stop for some breakfast staples.Helpful 6Thanks 1Love this 3Oh no 0Jan 8, 2018Previous reviewSo delicious! Their brunch options and strawberry mimosas are fantastically on point and they have three floors of seating, so you need not wait to get your scarf down on. I had the absolute pleasure of dining here recently with a friend and we were both raving about our meals the whole time. She got a simple two egg with toast and potatoes and whathaveyou situation and I went fancy and got the veggie bennie sans hollandaise. Their portion sizes are pretty massive. Everything was cooked perfectly, although I prefer my potatoes a little more chopped up--though that's a simple matter of preference here, people. Definitely nothing to stop you from visiting! The brunch gods were clearly smiling upon us that day, because everything was amazing and the service was excellent. We even ended up with a cute waiter. The prices are more than reasonable, especially for the portions. I'll be back again for more day drinking and delicious dining.

First time in Oakland, after reading "elite yelper" John's saga on this place we decided to go and see for ourselves. Where John bounces back and forth from raving about this place and hating this place, we found ourselves pretty much in the middle. First thought is they're bumping all the early 2000s r&b and I'm here for it. Food was mixed, fries were decent but nothing to write home about, bacon was mixed, the one who loves bacon did not enjoy it cause it was bland but the one who hates bacon actually kinda liked it. French toast was simple, classic, good, Cesar salad with chicken was meh, dressing was just drizzled on top not mixed in and personally I don't want to toss my own salad so to speak. I do love a good mini croton though and the chicken on it was *chefs kiss*, and final last note, John your right, eggs were lukewarm.

GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE! I've come here twice now and both times the customer service was on point, and honestly made the food taste a bit better as the atmosphere and experience itself was enjoyable.
Both times I've visited this restaurant, I ordered a crab omelette. I loved how the omelette came with real crab rather than the regular imitation crab. The crab was succulent and extremely flavorful. I ordered other things on the menu as well that were just okay in my opinion. I will definitely come back for the crab omelette alone and would recommend it to others. I don't believe another restaurant in Oakland can pull off a crab omelette quite like the grill.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Nov 16, 2023
Cool old school diner in Jack London Square next to the produce warehouses. I've been for breakfast a while back and never got around to writing a review but it was good. Yesterday I went for a burger and it was probably the best burger I've ever had. It was the Oakland Grill Burger and includes an egg, (didn't think I would like it, my son made me try and I LOVED it) avocado, fried onions, swiss cheese and chipotle mayo. This burger took several napkins..... so messy, but OMG so good.
The service was slow, but it was busy lunch time they seemed short handed. Parking can be sketchy over there. I parked on the street adjacent in front of a produce market. More eyes and business going on. Nothing fancy here, just good food!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - May 28, 2023
Don't let the outside appearance fool you! This place is solid! Stopped in here based on a few Yelp Reviews in search of breakfast. We arrived around 11 and to my surprise I there was no wait. We weee able to sit down right away. Our server came over seconds after sitting down to take our drink order. He arrived quickly with them. One thing of note the OJ is fresh squeezed and is extremely pulpy. If you don't like pulp you may want to order something else.
I ordered the crab omelette and it was amazing. It is fresh crab and a nice size portion I wasn't able to finish it all.
One thing of note is everyone was moving so quickly and efficiently. They were all working as a team and because of that the service was fantastic. They were turning tables quickly.
There is street parking all around we came on Sunday so we didn't have to pay for parking but be aware that you may have to.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
