Bangalore gears up for 'mahashivaratri'

About 3,000 Shiva temples in the city will have access to Ganga water. Also, 100 Shivalingams have been brought from River Gandaki in the Himalayas.

Preparations are in full swing for Mahashivaratri on Monday. Chief minister DV Sadananda Gowda inaugurated the programme by handing over an urn containing Ganga water to Rameshwara temple in Chamarajpet on Sunday.

“About 60,000 litres of sacred Gangajal was brought to the state from Brahmakund in the Himalayas. About 3,000 Shiva temples will have access to the sacred water,” said former muzrai minister Krishnaiah Shetty.

Appreciating Shetty for his efforts in bringing Ganga water to the state, Gowda noted that Shetty had been doing this noble work for the past four years. Gowda took part in the poornahuti and abhishekam, the religious rituals in the Rameshwara temple. MLAs Ravisubramanya and Hemachandra Sagar were present.
Dance-drama all night

Gayathri Devasthanam Trust in Yeshwantpur has organised a dance-drama programme on Monday night. Swarna Gowri and Agastyeshwara Swamy idols at Gayathri temple will be embellished for the occasion. Vidwan Narasimhaiah and Venkatesh’s troupe will give the performances.

Hundred Shivalingams, brought from River Gandaki in the Himalayas, were installed in the temple. These lingams are natural creations and are popular among devotees. There is no entrance fee for participating in the programme. For more details, contact 99723 00090.
