The way people are consuming information online has been changing as video is taking over the internet. As a Toronto marketing company, we’ve seen first hand how posting videos instead of static posts can increase your reach by 5X and engagements by 6x on Facebook and other social media sites. And it makes sense. Would you rather sit there and read a boring old caption with a still image, or watch a flashy video that engages and teaches you about a new product or service?

That being said, video marketing can be expensive. Is it really worth the time, cost, and headache to create a video for your website? The short answer is yes! (as long as it’s good). Before we get into the tips for creating a website video that rocks, let’s first cover why a strong website video is so important.

Why Does My Website Need A Video?

When people consume content, they want something captivating, interesting and most importantly, moving. Our online attention spans are shorter than ever, with the average person giving your site 5 seconds before they give up and leave. Video helps by providing a visibly eye catching piece of content that simultaneously teaches your audience about your product. And even more importantly, the better your site visitors understand how your product or service works, the more likely they are to make a purchase.

Don’t believe me? Videos have been shown to boost conversion rates up to 2X and increase the average value of orders by 19%. If you include a video on a well designed landing page, you can even increase conversion rates by as much as 80%! If that’s not a good enough reason to include video on your website, I don’t know what is. But here comes the important question; ‘how do I create a successful video and embed it on my website?

5 Tips To Creating A Successful Video

Marketing companies agree, video works. But what types of video should you use? Videos can come in many forms, however the three most effective are customer testimonials, tutorial videos and demonstration videos. In fact, 90% of users say that product videos are helpful in the decision making process.

Here are 5 key tips to creating a great video:

1

Make sure your video doesn’t clash with your overall brand. Your video should stay consistent with your company’s brand including text, colours, language, tone and character.
2

Create your video with your goal in mind. If you decide to create videos to boost sales for each of your products and/or services, make sure to cover the key needs. Quickly illustrate the benefits, features and specs while using consumer friendly language if possible. The more you educate your audience on its use, the better.
3

Skip the long intro, and get right to it!
Your videos should engage your user within the first 5 seconds. As previously mentioned, viewers’ attention spans are decreasing, making it crucial to get their attention ASAP.
4

Keep Your videos 30 seconds and under to avoid fatigue. Did you know? 33% of viewers will stop watching a video after 30 seconds, 45% by one minute, and 60% by two minutes.
5

Embed your videos directly onto your website as opposed to linking to them. It’s tough getting the right people to visit your website. The last thing you want to do is give them a reason to leave.

How To Embed Video On Your Website

Embedding a video onto your website is really simple. As a digital marketing agency, we recommend that it’s best to upload your video onto youtube first. If you do not want to post it publically you can change the settings to make it a private post. Once it’s posted, click on the ‘share’ button in the menu underneath the video. Click the ‘Embed’ icon, copy the HTML code given and paste it into your website code. The video should appear in your content field in the same size it appears on Youtube.
