Here we share with you the amazing work and initiatives that are happening across the Health and Life Sciences sector in Liverpool City Region. In the Liverpool City Region, this sector continues to push forward with research and innovation front and centre and we continue to showcase what we have to offer. 
Updates
The Health and Life Sciences Sector in the region has been further strengthened thanks to the appointment of several new board members.

This Liverpool City Region Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) sub-board plays a leading role in growing and developing such a vital sector, as well as supporting the economic recovery plans to ‘build back better’ post pandemic.

Peter Timmins, Chair of the Health and Life Sciences Board has welcomed 13 new members. Amongst them are Rinki Deb, Senior Programme Manager, Infection Innovation Consortium, (iiCON) led by the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine and Damian Mohammed, who leads on North West Strategic Partnerships at the Centre for Process Innovation.

A pilot research study into a potentially quality of life-enhancing digital stroke rehabilitation tool has launched. The Virtual Engagement Rehabilitation Assistant (VERA) is a bespoke digital tool being developed by The Walton Centre NHS Foundation Trust and Citrus Suite software company, with research, funded by The Stroke Association and MedCity, led by the University of Central Lancashire. The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre NHS Foundation Trust has appointed Prof Christian Ottensmeier to the post of Director of Clinical Research. Prof Ottensmeier, a Consultant in Medical Oncology at The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre and Chair of Immuno-Oncology at the University of Liverpool, is an internationally recognised researcher into human immune responses to cancer. Sciontec has revealed plans for HEMISPHERE, the proposed £35m building will feature 116,000 square feet of innovative Grade A office space for health, education, science and tech occupiers. It is aiming to be the first operational net zero carbon commercial building in Liverpool City Region. Read more here.

Skills and Talent
The new ‘Skills for Life’ website brings together hundreds of government-funded skills opportunities in one place. It promotes online learning options and free essential skills courses, such as numeracy, English and digital, sector specific qualifications, Skills Bootcamps, Free Courses for Jobs and in-work training, as well as personalised support and guidance from the National Careers Service.

Be More's Skills Brokers team can help you to access funding, local grants and government incentive schemes to help up-skill or re-skill your employees. They can also look at how apprenticeships can up-skill your current team. Access up to 70% of funding towards training costs. Find out more here

Opportunities
Health Matters programme was set up to catalyse businesses in the Liverpool City Region to become market leaders in health, well-being and care by encouraging the development of products, services and solutions. Eligible businesses can receive support and advice to help them develop and deploy products and services into the health and care sector. Find out more here

Time is running out to apply for our free Business Resilience Programme, delivered by accounting and business advisory firm BDO, provides SME leaders with the opportunity to stabilise, adapt and grow their business.

This fully funded programme is designed to give business owners an opportunity to rethink their strategy and vision in order to come back stronger from the current economic challenges, to build resilience in their business; and to identify future growth opportunities. From 2 February - 12 April we will also be running a series of free online business resilience workshops in partnership with BDO which are a great way to get access to experts and meet and learn from peers to explore your growth opportunities in a focused 2-hour session. Funding & Support
Liverpool City Region Capital Grant Fund
Grants from £10,000 to £75,000 are available, providing 20% towards the cost of business investment. The Liverpool City Regional Capital Grant Fund is part of a range of support that has been brought together by the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority and made available through Growth Platform the Liverpool City Region Growth Company. Small and medium-sized businesses across the UK can now access free and impartial online support to see how digital technology can boost their business performance. Eligible businesses can also apply for a discount of up to 50% off the purchase of approved software from a range of leading technology suppliers, worth up to £5,000.
