Askrigg folk concert will raise money for vital services

Proceeds from a double-bill folk concert in Askrigg village hall next Saturday will raise funds for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance and Swaledale Mountain Rescue.

The charities, both providing vital services to the dales community, have been chosen by organisers Andrew and Kirsten Civil.

The first concert will feature four members of the five-strong Bradford group Wilful Missing, who have played across the BBC from Radio 2 to BBC 1, and on Mike Harding’s internet radio show. They have supported, live, The Duke and The King, Jeffrey Lewis, The Wave Pictures, Neil McSweeney and The Miserable Rich.

The second concert starts at 8.30pm and features folk duo Greg Russell and Ciaran Algar in a return visit: they played in Askrigg to a packed audience last year and since then have released their third album.

Said Andrew: “It was a hugely entertaining evening as anyone will confirm who saw them that night.They are both talented musicians, renowned for their on-stage banter and amusing anecdotes. It promises to be a fantastic evening for two very worthwhile local charities.”

A licensed bar will serve hot drinks, soft drinks, cask and bottled beer supplied by the local Yorkshire Dales Brewery in Askrigg and there will be a selection of hot food provided by On the Hoof catering.Tickets from Sykes House, or call 01969 650 803 or email askriggfolkconcerts@btinternet.com

The price for both concerts is £16 for adults, £10 for under-18s to nine years, and for either single concert it’s £10 and £6. Eight year olds and under go free.
