London City Airport adds music to security lanes, but which artists make the playlists?
Leaving on a jet plane
London City Airport has begun playing music for passengers as they pass through security into the departures area.
Don't worry - it doesn't involve buskers or crooning security personnel.
Two different playlists, one of ambient electronica and the other upbeat acoustic music, are being broadcast throughout the day in the main security area.
Featured artists include Ed Sheeran, Gavin James, Ben Howard and Adele - with Sheeran receiving the most popular reactions, according to the airport.
"We wanted to enhance the customer experience with a soundtrack to security," said Melanie Burnley, Director of Customer Experience at London City Airport.
Background music may improve passengers' moods, according to Dr Stephanie Bramley, an Honorary Research Fellow in the Psychology of Music at The University of Sheffield, who has also researched the use of music in gambling environments.
"In an airport, playing music which is subtle, fits in with the overall ambiance of the security search area and is deemed to be familiar and liked by passengers, might act as a positive distraction," Dr. Bramley added.
