Publisher Description

When Una Fairchild stumbles upon a mysterious book buried deep in the basement of her school library, she thinks nothing of opening the cover and diving in. But instead of paging through a regular novel, Una suddenly finds herself Written In to the land of Story—a world filled with Heroes and Villains and fairy-tale characters.

But not everything in Story is as magical as it seems. Una must figure out why she has been Written In—and fast—before anyone else discovers her secret. Together with her new friend Peter and a talking cat named Sam, Una digs deep into Story's shadowy past. She quickly realizes that she is tied to the world in ways she never could have imagined—and it might be up to her to save it.

Enchanting. Loved the characters; Una, Peter, Snow, Indy and Sam the talking cat. Similar in some ways to books like Cornelia Funke’s Inkheart series, Jasper Fflordes’ Thursday Next novels and more recently Jodi Picoult and Samantha Van Leer’s Between the Lines and Off the Page books where actual people end up inside books. Ms, Burt takes her story in a different direction though with storybook characters going to classes and studying subjects such as heroics and villainy for example. The tension builds as the story progresses right up to the cliffhanger of an ending. Looking forward to reading the sequel.

I’m drawn to the plot and world of this book but I don’t think it is very well written. The characters are a little odd and I wish they’d show their true colors more. Example: I see Una as a very composed and polite character. I wish her characteristics were expanded upon in the book and we could see her angry more often, or maybe annoyed at something random. There also weren’t any comedic moments. But still I loved the plot and it’s one of my favorite books even if the writing style isn’t adequate in my personal opinion.
