Chesapeake Bay Foundation offers photo contest

Attention aspiring shutterbugs: The Chesapeake Bay Foundation is holding its eighth annual Watershed Photo Contest.

The contest is open to photographers of all skill levels older than 13. Participants are asked to take images that "illustrate the beauty, benefits and bounty of the bay and its rivers and streams."

The photos can focus on a variety of topics but must include water from the Chesapeake Bay or a river, stream, creek or other body of water inside the watershed. Suggested topics include beauty, recreation, history, legacy and agriculture.

Photos must be submitted by April 13. Winners will be announced by May 25. The grand prize is $500. Second prize is $250 and third is $150. There also is a viewer's choice prize of $100.

All winners will receive a year's membership with the foundation and have their photos featured on its website, newsletter, magazine and 2013 calendar.

Judging will be conducted by a panel of foundation employees based on subject matter, composition, focus, lighting, uniqueness and impact. The public will be able to vote for its favorite online.
