Momentum, Inc. was proud to be a Platinum Sponsor at this year’s Special Olympics PA – Area M games hosted at Messiah College in Mechanicsburg, PA. The games were held on Thursday, April 20, 2017. Momentum hosted an arts and crafts table at the Olympic Village for the athletes with activities that included painting and designing their own trophy, Olympic medal and bracelet. Additionally, Momentum employees ran and supported the shot put event.

Special Olympics PA – Area M offers the chance for adults and children with intellectual disabilities in Cumberland, Dauphin, Perry and York Counties to compete in a sports training competition. Their mission is to offer Olympic style games for each person to experience joy, develop physical fitness skills, and develop friendships with their families and other athletes. All competition and training opportunities are free for the athlete and their families.

The event at Messiah College hosted 1,200 athletes in a variety of events including the 100-meter dash, long jump, high jump, and many more. Numerous members of the local community volunteer each year as buddies to the athletes and help the games run smoothly. In addition, Momentum worked with D&H Distributing to run the Olympic Village offering activities including games, art/crafts, music and food.

Momentum offers its employees an extra vacation day each year to participate in volunteering opportunities, including Special Olympics. The company raises money and awareness for local charities as part of their “Sharing Our Success” campaign. The company started the campaign in 2008 as a way to give back to the local community.
