U.S. News and World Report ranks a number of University of Alabama at Birmingham programs among the nation’s Top 20, including AIDS, primary care, rural medicine, physical therapy and others. The latest rankings were released in the 2013 edition of “America’s Best Graduate Schools,” available online at www.usnews.com/.
In the School of Medicine, among the overall top medical schools, UAB ranked No. 12 in primary care and No. 31 in research. UAB ranked No. 9 for its AIDS program and No. 12 in rural medicine among medical school specialties.
In the School of Health Professions, UAB’s physical therapy program ranked No. 19 among top health disciplines.
The UAB School of Education cracked the top 100 out of 280 schools ranked, coming in at 92.
Each year, U.S. News & World Report ranks professional school programs in business, education, engineering, law and medicine using expert opinion of program quality and statistical indicators that measure the quality of a school’s faculty, research and students. For the rankings in all five areas, indicator and opinion data come from surveys of more than 1,200 programs and some 9,600 academics and professionals.
The magazine also ranks programs in the sciences, social sciences and humanities on a rotating basis, usually every three years. These rankings are based solely on the ratings of academic experts, as are the academic health specialties.
