10 Things That Made Philly Weddings So Much Cooler in 2018

Take a walk down wedding memory lane with us, why don't you?

2018 was a wonderful year for Philly weddings. New venues opened, local celebs got hitched, and less-famous couples got super-creative with their celebrations. Scroll down for our highlights, presented in no particular order.

1. Some of our fave sports stars tied the knot.

First came Jason Kelce, who wed Kylie McDevitt at the Logan hotel in April. Next up: Carson Wentz, who took the plunge with Maddie Oberg at the Lakehouse Inn in Perkasie. A Super Bowl ring and a new spouse? Not a bad way to round out the year.

2. New venues opened in the city and the suburbs.

Cescaphe added to their empire with The Lucy, a modern ballroom in the heart of Center City, and Anthro fans got a new option on the Main Line with the gorgeous Terrain Gardens at Devon Yard. Early next year, the much anticipated Fitler Club will also open its doors for weddings. (And no, you don’t have to be a member to get married there.)

3. Aubrey Plaza starred in our favorite role yet: groomswoman.

When Plaza’s father, David Plaza, married  Mihaela Ghetau at the Union League, the actress donned her best black suit and posed for some pretty badass portraits. See more of the goodness here.

4. Alphonso Rogers Jr. and his groomsmen rocked the hell out of some pink suits.

Wife Dominique Monet Mason also had a pretty epic costume change come reception time for their spring-y wedding at The Waterfall. A crown and a jumpsuit were involved.

5. A South Philly couple had a block party wedding and invited the whole neighborhood.

If you’re wondering if there was a bouncy castle, the answer is of course.

6. Gritty crashed a wedding over Thanksgiving weekend.

He also killed it on the dance floor. It was, according to at least one guest, the most important thing they have ever been a part of.

7. A Prosecco van FINALLY happened for the Philly area.

We loved the original on Instagram, lamented when we found out it was only available for London-area weddings, and cried prosecco-flavored tears of joy when the The Roving Bar made its first appearance at a Springfield Country Club wedding.

8. A definitely-cooler-than-you bride wore a purple disco dress to her Vernick wedding.

9. One guy turned a coffee shop into the most adorable Up-inspired proposal.

Luke proposed to Ettie with her two favorite things: scrabble and coffee. The photos are straight-up the sweetest.

10. This Reading Terminal Market embodied everything we believe about weddings.

Namely that, if nothing else, they should be fun. And that they should embody the spirit of your city, especially if that city is Philly.
