Patagonia Supporting Local Environmentally Conscious Groups

We're so proud to be stocking a range of clothing by the amazing brand Patagonia. The company is doing so many amazing things in regards to environmental and social responsibility and they fit right in with our beliefs!

The company has a wide range of schemes available including the Worn Wear scheme which offers free repairs on all Patagonia clothing, encouraging customers to repair and recycle rather than contributing to our throw away fashion culture.

Since 1985 Patagonia has pledged 1% of all their sales to restoration and preservation of the environment and in 2002 Yvon Chouinard (founder of Patagonia) teamed up with Craig Mattews, the owner of Blue Ribbon Flies to create a non profit organisation called '1% for the planet' that encourages other businesses to do the same.

Through this programme Patagonia recently established partnerships with local Gold Coast groups in Australia such as the Surfrider Foundation to preserve and protect the natural environment around Burleigh.

Not only are they encouraging local businesses and foundations to get involved with their scheme they have also just redesigned their Burleigh Heads store to cement the brand's standing with the local surfing community. The tailored revamp has allowed Patagonia to enjoy a seamless presence in the area, with the store being highly anticipated and enthusiastically welcomed. With images of the area from years gone by and consistent reference to this important Australian surfing destination, Patagonia has proven that it is an international brand with the ability to maintain awareness and support within their local communities.

The surfing market in Australia is worth an estimated $2 billion and Patagonia aims to target the enthusiasts and visitors to surf points, offering welcomed competition to already established brands such as Kathmandu and Paddy Pallin. The first Australian store was opened in Torquay in 2009 which was extremely successful and paved the way for further Australian outlets. Patagonia’s success in the country has been exceptional and the surfing community have welcomed the brand eagerly, with continued hope for further expansion and new stores.

The company continues to use recycled and locally sourced materials for products, aiming to be as organic and ethical as possible. With the recent launch of their Yulex wetsuit, the first suit of its kind made from 100% plant materials, Patagonia is as innovative and exciting as they are successful.
