Two days before the 2016 presidential election, I watched Ty Segall perform on the Late Show With David Letterman. After a reliably turbo-charged performance from the stalwart rocker, he screamed "GO VOTE" at the audience. I remember thinking it was unnecessary – Clinton had it in the bag, after all – but now? Boy fuckin' howdy am I listening closer to Ty's political pronouncements.
"Class War" is a cover of a 40 year old punk track by The Dils, premiering today on The FADER. Taken from Ty's upcoming covers project Fudge Sandwich, "Class War" is a straightforward, unironic, and inspiring call for revolution for people tired of eating shit and pretending it's, uh, fudge: "I want a war between the rich and the poor / I want to fight, and know what I'm fighting for."
Chip Kinman of The Dils gave Segall's cover a ringing endorsement in a statement via email. "Ty Segall answers questions that [brother and bandmate] Tony and I never even thought to ask with his version of ‘Class War.’ I LOVE it!"
