SHOULDER TO SHOULDER: Bergdorf Goodman loves an exclusive offering.
The retailer’s latest coup for its 5F contemporary floor touches on one of the season’s leading trends — the off-the-shoulder top. For the third consecutive year, Bergdorf’s has tapped Tibi to create a limited-edition capsule collection based on a single silhouette — last year it was the label’s culottes, and the year prior, it was a full skirt — that includes three of Tibi’s best-selling cold-shoulder blouses. The offering features the tops in exclusive fabrics and colorways from Tibi’s archives and ranges from $295 to $345.
Each one features a signature flat hemline across the chest, which designer Amy Smilovic said keeps the style from looking too bohemian. “I think the reason why ours have been working so well is that an off-the-shoulder blouse is extremely flattering,” said Smilovic. “They’re longer, so you can tuck them in, and that hides a lot. Plus, with a jacket over it, it’s totally work-appropriate. Take the jacket off, and you’re good to go. The old adage was having three different places to wear something, but now you need three different life moments. Can I wear it on the weekend, to the office, and out at night? If you can hit all of those facets of your life, then you’re good. And that’s why I think this top has done so well.” The collection launches today and runs for a limited time.
