NEW DELHI — The Woolmark Co. has shortlisted 15 designers from the India, Pakistan and Middle East region for the 2016-17 International Woolmark Prize.
They include four designers from India, five from the Middle East, three from Pakistan and two from Lebanon.
Of the nominees, 11 are women’s wear designers: Nachiket Barve, Sahil Kochhar and Eka from India; Bouguessa, Bint Thani and Reem Al Kanhal from the Middle East; Bashar Assaf and Mira Hayek from Lebanon, and Saira Shakira, Zonia and Republic Womenswear from Pakistan.
The men’s wear designers include Bounipun from India, House of Arsalan Iqbal from Pakistan and Emperor 1688 and Mashael Alrajhi from the Middle East.
In 2015-16 the winner of the men’s wear category was from this region — Suket Dhir from India.
The award ceremony will be held on July 15 in Mumbai.
The official nominating bodies for the designers in India, Pakistan and the Middle East include IMG Reliance (India), Pakistan Fashion Design Council (Pakistan), Dubai Design and Fashion Council (Dubai) and Tala Starch Foundation (Lebanon).
