An Auburn man has been arrested in connection with a stabbing that took place Sunday afternoon in front of a building at 125 Pierce St. in Lewiston.

Lt. Mike McGonagle said the victim, 22-year-old Jonathan McLellan of Lewiston, was stabbed in the arm and back with a wood-handled paring knife around 2:25 p.m.

McLellan was transported to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston with non-life threatening injuries, McGonagle said.

A hospital spokeswoman said Sunday evening that McLellan was still being evaluated.

The suspect, 25-year-old Jeremy Trudeau of Auburn, was questioned by police Sunday night, arrested and transported to the Androscoggin County Jail where he was charged with aggravated assault, according to jail officials.

Trudeau’s bail has been set at $5,000 cash.

McGonagle said the men know each other, and have been involved in a ongoing feud. Police said the feud likely provoked the violence.

A Lewiston police officer who is trained as an emergency medical technician may have helped save McLellan’s life.

Randy Hausman was one of the first police officers to arrive at the stabbing scene. He applied a tourniquet to McLellan’s arm, which stopped the bleeding, McGonagle said.
