A man was airlifted to hospital with third degree burns after a fire erupted at his parent’s home on Christopher Drive in Waterloo.

Neighbours say they heard several loud bangs around 4:30 on Saturday afternoon.

Police say the homeowners were away for the weekend. Their adult son was inside but was able to get out of the house on his own.

It’s not clear what caused the fire or the explosions but police say the incident is being treated as suspicious.

The Ontario Fire Marshal’s office has been called in to investigate.
