Buckhead Tower is DOA, Sparing Two Longtime Businesses

Due to height restrictions placed years ago on one site, tower proposal is unlikely to be built

A proposed high-rise residential development on Peachtree Road in the heart of Buckhead has been quashed, marking the rare post-recession tower proposal in the booming submarket that isn't materializing.

The current property owner of a site on East Shadowlawn Drive, one of three sites which comprise the land for a proposed 21-story high-rise, was seeking to remove zoning restrictions that limited development to two stories. But at a recent Neighborhood Planning Unit Meeting, the request was denied.

According to BuckheadView, the owner indicated that they had no plans to sell the site for the development, though the timing of the request seems pretty suspect if not. Regardless, the decision means the tower proposal is pretty much dead.

The news also means that longtime businesses on the site — Dan Martin Flowers and York Furs — will remain to operate out of two former homes that have stood on Peachtree Road since the 1940s.
