SYDNEY — Oscar de la Renta and Cynthia Rowley are heading down to Sydney for next month’s Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia, which is due to run from May 15-20 at Carriageworks.
Rowley is showing on May 19, a day organizer IMG Fashion has dedicated to swimwear and activewear. The move is part of IMG’s broader strategy to better align the annual summer wholesale showcase with the international resort season in the hope of luring international brands down under. Likewise, the timing of the event was also pushed back several weeks this year to mid-May.
Although Rowley did not respond to an e-mail request for further information about whether or not she will be unveiling a new collection, IMG said the designer is due to present a resort collection of ready-to-wear, swimwear and wetsuits.
De la Renta, meanwhile, will close the week with a presentation of the summer collection. The brand will be represented in Sydney by executive vice president Eliza Bolen.
