Bad Wolves’ Cover of The Cranberries’ ‘Zombie’ Roars Onto Rock Charts
The band's first Billboard chart entry debuts at No. 25 on Hot Rock Songs.
When Dolores O’Riordan, late frontwoman of The Cranberries, died Jan. 15 in London, she was in the city to record vocals for an upcoming cover by Bad Wolves of The Cranberries’ 1994 classic “Zombie.”
On Jan. 19, the Los Angeles-based five-piece released its remake, sans O’Riordan’s vocals, as a tribute following her death, and it marks Bad Wolves’ first Billboard chart appearance, debuting on multiple rankings dated Feb. 3.
“Zombie” debuts at No. 25 on Hot Rock Songs (which blends streaming, download sales and radio airplay data), owed mainly to a first-week sales tally of 9,000. That’s good for debuts at Nos. 3 and 8 on the Hard Rock Digital Song Sales and Rock Digital Song Sales charts, respectively. Proceeds from the song will benefit O’Riordan’s children.
The track has also begun to receive radio airplay, bubbling under the Mainstream Rock Songs ranking. The song additionally sparks the group’s debut at No. 38 on the Emerging Artists chart.
Bad Wolves’ debut album is slated for release later in 2018 via Eleven Seven Music. The band has a labelmate in Five Finger Death Punch, with whom Bad Wolves frontman Tommy Vext performed as a fill-in lead vocalist last year.
