City to host 5th annual Youth Career Fest

More than 2,000 area high school students to experience a variety of  job opportunities with local employers

The City of Austin will host the 5th Annual Youth Career Fest on Wednesday, January 31 at the Palmer Events Center.

Please see note to editors below.

Austin’s Public Health’s Annual Youth Career Fest is a career exploration event for Austin area high school students hosted by the Austin Youth Council. The Austin Youth Council is a group of high school students who represent the voice of youth in local government by learning about city government and meeting with policymakers and administrators.

In 2014, the Austin Youth Council created this event to ensure that their high school peers transitioning into the workforce, and/or higher education, would be offered helpful information in order to make sound career decisions.

The event will feature over 150 vendors including St. David’s Healthcare, IBC Bank, AT&T, DroneSense, The Greater Austin Chamber of Commerce, KLRU, Samsung, Dell Technologies and more. Over 30+ schools throughout the Austin area plan to participate with over 2,000 high school students in attendance.

Additionally at the event Austin/Travis County EMS will be showcasing an ambulance, motorcycle and other life saving equipment, Circuit of the Americas plans to bring a Formula 1 show-car, and  DroneSense will bring some drones for a demonstration

Speaking at the event will be Tamara Atkinson, CEO of Workforce Solutions Capital Area. Others speakers are Morgan Craven from Texas Appleseed and Morgan Hendrix from Alamo Drafthouse. Both will discuss the topic of personal growth through the lens of career exploration.
