   Take a look at faviconiac.com, it’s not exactly an icon search engine but a web service to display website’s favicons in your web pages. There’s also an addon for Firefox: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/10618 (Faviconiac Search Engines)

    All the icon search engines above have their icons specially indexed. Most of them have the icons on their own server. Normal search engines like Google isn’t very good a finding the right icons because their search results are based on the surrounding text. Another thing – you can’t specify the standard search engines to only show you icons. It will also gives you normal photos.
    If you want good results for a icon search engine you need to make the results based on tags instead. On Iconfinder you can see, add and edit these tags by clicking an icon or hover over the ‘info’-button next to the icon.

    IconDatabase.net (http://icondatabase.net/) is a new icon site that just came out. The main features are that it’s community driven (anyone can upload free icons), and it makes it really easy to find icons for specific apps.
