Pedestrian killed after being struck by multiple vehicles in Sayreville

A pedestrian was killed Saturday night after being struck by multiple vehicles on Route 9 in Sayreville.

SAYREVILLE –  A pedestrian was killed Saturday night after being struck by multiple vehicles, Middlesex County Prosecutor Andrew C. Carey and Sayreville Police Chief John Zebrowski said Sunday.

The man, whose identity has not been released, was pronounced dead at the scene at 8:06 p.m.

The initial investigation by Sayreville Sgt. John Bartlinski and Detective Don Heck of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office determined that the man was struck as he was crossing Route 9. The initial impact was from a Red Saturn SUV traveling in the fast lane of Route 9 North near the Starbucks, officials said.

The man was thrown by the vehicle and landed in the center lane of Route 9 South, where he was then stuck by multiple vehicles including a black Mitsubishi sedan.

Authorities are looking for additional vehicles that were involved in the crash.

An autopsy is pending with the Middlesex County Medical Examiner's Office.

No charges have been filed, but the investigation is continuing.
