Sheer Element is among the acts to announce that they auditioned for Season 23 of The Voice.

The Voice returns to NBC Monday night.

Here’s more about Sheer Element:

* The group is made up of Jej Vinson, Tabon Ward and Izzy Kaye, who met as students at USC (The University of Southern California).

* In an interview with Celeb Secrets, they said they were sharing some wine and enjoying a chill night at Tabon’s apartment and decided to make a video covering Ariana Grande’s “Only 1.”

* That video wound up going viral, and they decided to explore performing and recording more together.

* As for the name: “Sheer Element was what we came up with – ‘sheer’ to describe our sleek vibe and musical arrangements, and ‘element’ represents our unity together, whether that be our blend when we sing or the insanely close friendship we all have,” they told Celeb Secrets.

* They’ve enjoyed some early success, releasing six covers and two live tracks since 2021. Their version of the BeeGee’s “How Deep is Your Love” is their most popular to date with more than 400,000 streams on Spotify.

* But three other covers — “I Say a Little Prayer,” “Pick Up Your Feelings” and “Can We Talk” each have more than 140,000 streams.

* And the trio has become popular on TikTok with more than 140,000 followers and more than 1.3 million likes on their posts.

* If the name Jej Vinson sounds familiar, it might be because he’s appeared on The Voice before, back in Season 16 (spring of 2019).

* Then 22, he turned four chairs with his cover of Drake’s “Passionfruit” and advanced to the Top 13 before being eliminated.

* Jej later released a full cover of “Passionfruit” to streaming sites. It’s been streamed 1.7 million times on Spotify alone.

* The other two members of the group have released music as well. Izzy has more than 400,000 streams on a 2018 single called “I See You.” Tabon has more than 140,000 on a 2018 single called “With You.”

* And while they haven’t released originals as Sheer Element yet, that might be in the works. They told Celeb Secrets they’ve been writing together with the goal of “fusing elements of classic R&B with elements of the new alternative pop / R&B.”
