About this cause

At St Gemma’s Hospice, in Leeds, we provide care to local people who are living with terminal illnesses. We give expert medical and emotional support to patients on our wards, Day Hospice and in people‘s own homes, 365 days of the year. Our Bereavement Support Team ensure that patients’ families and carers are also supported, whenever they need it. The Hospice was recently awarded the highest accolade of ‘Outstanding’ by the Care Quality Commission. Each year, we support over 3,000 people and we are extremely proud that our services are provided free for patients and families to access. It costs £25,000 each and every day to run all of the Hospice’s services. We work hard to raise over £6million each year through fundraising initiatives and donations.

How this cause brings people in the community together

Our Community Nurse Specialists, are able to help the patient with physical, emotional, spiritual or social support. They have a great knowledge of medication and work closely with the Hospice doctors and the wider team of professionals who can be involved in the patient's care such as complementary therapists, physiotherapists, and spiritual care team to ensure the needs of the patient are met.
