Electric Mobility Monthly

August 2016

Drive Oregon Awarded Nearly $1M to Promote EVs

Drive Oregon will receive $993,450 to raise consumer awareness and drive sales of electric vehicles across the Pacific Northwest. The funding, from the US Department of Energy, will support the creation of an electric vehicle and charging equipment "showcase" in downtown Portland, mobile "pop-up" showcases across Oregon and Washington, and a comprehensive regional marketing campaign. Read recent media coverage and our press release to learn more about this exciting development, and stay tuned for more updates as these initiatives get underway!
Oregon Submits Clean Fuel Corridor Nominations

The Fixing America's Surface Transportation (FAST) Act requires that the Secretary of Transportation to designate national electric vehicle charging, hydrogen, propane, and natural gas fueling corridors. The Oregon Department of Transportation has nominated Interstate 5, Highway 101, and Interstate 84 as our state's Zero Emission Corridors. Many sections of these key transportation routes in Oregon already have electric vehicle charging stations, but all would benefit from continued improvements and more installed stations. Drive Oregon fully agrees with ODOT's nominations and submitted a letter of support to the FHWA last week. Click here to read more about this and other federal initiatives to support electric vehicle adoption announced in late July by the White House. We invite you to also check out our recent blog post summarizing key lessons learned and best practices for fast charging installations based on Oregon's network.

Volkswagen Settlement to Support EVs in Oregon

Earlier this summer, Volkswagen announced it had agreed to two related settlements - totaling just under $15 billion - to settle allegations of cheating on emissions tests on its diesel engines. The settlements include $2.7 billion to fund a variety of projects across the country that will reduce air pollution – from retrofits of diesel construction equipment to promotion of electric buses. Volkswagen will also spend $2 billion over 10 years to improve infrastructure, access and education to advance zero emission vehicles. Some of these funds could be spent as early as 2017. Drive Oregon is working closely with the State of Oregon and national stakeholders to maximize the benefits of these investments.
