This Watermelon Party is Juicy & Delicious

Crisp watermelon and a sunny summer afternoon are the perfect recipe for this sweet watermelon party! Shades of red, pink and green embellish everything from the fancy balloon garland to the watermelon sugar cookies and party papery. We’re excited to share all the details of this super fruity soiree that’s extra juicy and delicious!

The invitation sets the stage for any party, and this watermelon invite from Minted was absolutely perfect for our theme. It’s fun design makes you feel like you can take a watermelon bite right out of it!

We created this whimsical balloon arch that was perfect for the dessert table backdrop. It’s a total showstopper! Our Sweet Watermelon party collection offers a DIY kit that includes everything you need to make one of these garlands. They’re super popular right now, but no need to be intimidated. It’s actually pretty easy to put together, and you can do it too!

The clear plastic balloon arch decorating strip included in the kit gives you the template, holding up to 12 latex balloons per foot for your watermelon vine balloon garland. Simply pull the knot ends of inflated balloons through the evenly spaced holes and trim the strip to the right length.

What do you serve at a watermelon party? Well, watermelon-themed treats, of course! Including fresh slices of ice-cold watermelon.

We love using sugar cookies as edible cake toppers. Here we used royal icing to “glue” two lollipop sticks to the back of the watermelon cookie. Once the icing was dry, we stuck it right down in the middle of the cake.

We frosted the cupcakes pink and sprinkled on mini chocolate chips to mimic watermelon seeds!

These yummy watermelon slice cookies are almost too adorable to eat. You can package them up in cellophane bags and send them home with guests as a sweet party favor.

Watermelon Party Drinks

We think it’s super important for any party to have activities or games to keep the kiddos entertained. There are many fun and easy options for a watermelon themed party. Here are few of our favorites.

Watermelon eating contest. This can be a little messy, but it’s entertaining for older kids! Cut slices of watermelon in equal sizes and place on paper plates. On the word “go” players can grab a piece and eat their watermelon slice as quickly as possible. The first player to finish wins a prize.

Watermelon roll relay race. Divide party guests into two teams and each team gets a large watermelon. The object of the game is for the teams to roll their watermelon across the playing area to a set mark and then back.. First team with all of their members to complete the relay wins.

Watermelon pinata. Here’s a tutorial on how to make a giant watermelon pinata, which is always a party “hit.” We were intimidated by the thought of hand-making a pinata until we recently made one for one of our daughter’s watermelon swim birthday party. It turned out ridiculously cute and was surprisingly easy (just a little time consuming).
