Syracuse University officials have replaced Tone Loc with up-and-coming rapper Meek Mill for its Midnight Madness event at the Carrier Dome on Oct. 14.
Mill, a Philadelphia native who records on the Maybach Music Group, has been climing the R&B and rap charts with his current single “Tupac Back.”
Earlier this week, Tone Loc pleaded no contest to domestic violence and other charges, about three and a half months after a fight with the mother of his child, according to the Los Angeles County district attorney's office.
That action caused SU officials to re-think Tone Loc's appearance at Midnight Madness, which is billed as a family-friendly event.
In addition to Mill, Syracuse's Midnight Madness will feature Russian Bar Trio, an acrobatic act as seen on the popular television show America’s Got Talent.
Midnight Madness will offer SU basketball fans the chance to see the 2011-12 editions of the men’s and women’s team for the first time this fall. Both programs are coming off 20-win campaigns and postseason appearances. Scrimmages and drills from the men's and women's basketball teams will take place as well as a dunk contest and other activities.
Syracuse fans are encouraged to dress in orange, break out the “Big Heads” and ignite “the Loud House.”
Doors will open for Midnight Madness at 7:00 p.m. with the event scheduled to get underway at 8:00 p.m.
AmeriCU Credit Union’s Midnight Madness is free to the public, but requires a general-admission ticket limited to lower-bowl seating only. Tickets, at a limit of four per person while supplies last, are available at the Carrier Dome box office, the Schine Student Center and area AmeriCu Credit Union branches.
