If you want to boost your follower count without having to use an embarrassing amount of hashtags, Instagram is testing a feature that might let you hide hashtags from your captions. Developer Jane Manchun Wong tweeted a screenshot of the new feature, which lets you add an unlimited number of hashtags without having them appear in the final post.

In the tweet below, you can see she added four hashtags like #city and #hongkong:

And the hashtags don’t show up on the photo she posted on Instagram:

Wong also shared that the app is testing a geofencing feature, which lets users limit specific locations where their posts and stories will be available. Geofencing could be a useful feature for companies and brands if they’re limited to business in certain regions.

Hiding hashtags could be a welcome feature for influencers or people looking to boost their follower count without making it painfully obvious. But because the feature is only a test for now, it’s possible that it won’t be implemented permanently.
