Drones kill at least 9 in So. Waziristan

PESHAWAR, Pakistan, May 9 (UPI) -- Missiles fired by U.S. drones killed at least nine people Saturday in an area in South Waziristan, Pakistan, thought to be a Taliban stronghold, witnesses said.

The strikes injured 11 people, The Nation, a Pakistani newspaper, reported. Residents of the area said the missiles were fired at a school converted several months ago to a Taliban training camp.

Foreign fighters were among the dead and wounded, tribesmen said. They said after the missile strikes the compound was sealed off and local residents were not allowed to enter.

Pakistani intelligence officials told CNN that Baitullah Mehsud, a Taliban leader, dominates the Sararogha district near the Afghan border.
