Kanye West is still tweeting about abortion & Margaret Sanger, of course

Trump Kanye Meeting

While I have sympathy for Kanye West because he’s clearly struggling with a profound mental health issue, I still prefer to keep him in the “cancelled” column. Me cancelling celebrities is probably not the same as the “cancel culture” arguments made by the likes of JK Rowling and such – I just prefer to not even speak or write about Kanye’s MAGA politics or the fact that his new-found “religious” persona seems to be so heavily anti-woman and anti-choice. The only difference between Kanye and the Bible-thumpers who blame “wanton women” for the sins of the world is that the Bible-thumpers have more coherent “arguments.” To be clear, they’re all misogynists. And that’s what we’ve learned about Kanye: as his bipolar condition goes untreated, he dives deeper and deeper into misogyny. It informs his ignorant worldview. So, guess what? He was tweeting about abortion on Friday.

After a wild week for Kanye West, the rapper and presidential hopeful is now saying that the public shouldn’t be “concerned” about him. The 43-year-old took to Twitter to address what his wife, Kim Kardashian, deemed a bipolar episode after he made claims about her family and broke down in tears at a rally in South Carolina while saying the couple considered terminating Kardashian’s pregnancy with now 7-year-old daughter North.

“I cried at the thought of aborting my first born and everyone was so concerned about me,” West tweeted Friday morning. “I’m concerned for the world that feels you shouldn’t cry about this subject.”

West went on to add that he believes there may be a bigger agent at work to keep him from securing the presidency.

“There is a tactic of 4 D’s: Distract, Discredit, Dismiss, Destroy,” he continued. “I am quite alright. Take a second and think about what is being projected here.”

After he tweeted that, he posted a link to a New York Post article about how birth-control pioneer Margaret Sanger’s name was being taken off a Planned Parenthood building, because Sanger believed in eugenics. Anti-choice activists always bring up Sanger’s complicated history as some kind of “proof” that… abortion should be illegal, because eugenics or something. Their arguments never made any sense. Kanye followed that up with this tweet: “Over 22,500,000 black babies have been aborted over the past 50 years.” Congrats, anti-choice activists. This is your new spokesperson.

  1. Kiera says:

He and a lot of other idiots should read Freakonomics and see how legal abortions have a link to a decrease in crime rate, increased education opportunities, and an overall benefit to society.

But sure, fine, whatever blame women having abortions for why were on sign 6 of the apocalypse.

  2. wheneight says:

So . . . looks like he’s unwittingly going to split the Trump vote then? In that case, keep on tweeting Kanye.

  3. Antanina says:

I hope someone will troll his tweet with a meme I saw recently – “abortion could have prevented this post”

  4. amanda says:

He’s still trying to get on ballots for SWING states like Ohio just to be a spoiler candidate. I have no words for him UGHHHH

  5. You Must Be Joking says:

If he loves Trump so much why does he need to run?

    • Trashaddict says:

Here’s my nightmare scenario: Trump/Kanye ticket. Except so many Trump supporters are so racist they’d be having none of that. While I worry about anti-choice activists taking advantage what Kanya said, and I am definitely pro-choice, it is kinda sad that we aren’t doing birth control better as a preventive for abortion. And yes I know there are a lot of reasons for that. I also try to imagine the mind frame of a guy who has lost his mom, not close with his dad and half sibs, maybe ready for fatherhood, finding out his partner is thinking about a termination. Absolutely her choice, yes. But I could see how that would hurt, maybe even more so for a black male? Doesn’t cancel out that he needs to take care of his bipolar issues.

  6. grabbyhands says:

I hate to break it to him, but pro-lifers don’t actually care about babies and they care about black babies even less.

They’re a racist, misogynistic cult of forced pregnancy and birth in order to control and subjugate women. If they actually cared about children, they would be pro-birth control and would be leading the way for robust programs for new and expecting mothers so children were born to people who both wanted them and had the means to care for them at every level.

    • Merricat says:

      Right on.

    • Jay says:

THIS. Calling it “pro-life” instead of what it really is, “forced pregnancy”, makes such a difference to the level of discourse.

Given that even I know about the life-threatening complications Kim K faced during her pregnancies (and I don’t follow this family), it shows how little such misogynists value women and families.

    • Snappyfish says:

Exactly Grabbyhands…if they cared about children (& not just the unborn) they would make sure these children are educated, have healthcare, food, shelter, clothes, are safe….but nope it’s just the unborn. Once a child is born..you are on your own. Hypocrisy at its best

    • Kristic says:

Yes to @grabbyhands My mother is anti abortion but will just as quickly say that she doesn’t like that “women keep having babies to stay on welfare.” There is no reasoning with her or people like her.

    • Otaku fairy says:

Yep. If they were really pro-life, they also would be willing to get real about how the things they’ve said and the message they’ve always put out about women/girls who are sexual or get pregnant outside of their moral parameters has helped create situations where pregnancy is even riskier. Most religious and conservative-minded people would rather lead the charge in abusing, threatening, and silencing people who speak up about that instead though. It’s basically, “How dare women try to find other ways to protect themselves or others from this problem we have a lot of responsibility for!” They’re just pro- forced childbirth.

    • Lwt00 says:

      Precisely.

    • ChillyWilly says:

      @Grabby
Absolutely! These people care f@ck all about babies once they are born. It’s all about controlling women.

    • Keshet says:

      Many prolifers are black.

  7. Char says:

That’s what happens when people call a man who brags about never reading books a genius.

  8. Flamingo says:

I just do not understand why this is still an issue. I clerked for a bad ass federal judge a decade ago who was perplexed about why it is still a hot button issue. Issues come and go, but abortion is always there right at the surface. It has been argued and argued and argued some more. It’s really not difficult. If you have an issue with abortion for religious or ethical or any other reason, then YOU don’t have an abortion. Women deserve autonomy over their own bodies.

    • Skwinkee says:

Because female autonomy threatens the patriarchy and people will go to any lengths to protect it.

      It’s booooooshiiiit

  9. Kayleigh says:

His mom might still be around if she had an abortion.

Tired of his misogynistic bull. No one cares that your kid was almost aborted. Literally no.one. The only people this is influencing is his daughter and maybe his wife’s legal teams tactics.

    • Still_Sarah says:

@ Kayleigh : “His mom might still be around if she had an abortion”. I assume you mean if she had aborted Kanye? His mother died from complications after she had some minor cosmetic surgery. I feel your comment is in bad taste 🙁

  10. Kitten says:

Kim, if you’re reading this, lawyer up hard and run.

    • ME says:

I doubt she will. Kim, Kanye, and the kids were pap’d getting on a private jet together to go on a family vacation somewhere (I’m sure pics of that will be “leaked” soon).

  11. Lizzie Bathory says:

Anti choice people looooove to go after Margaret Sanger, but they never talk about this history of eugenics in the US otherwise. I wonder why? Maybe because in the US, eugenics advocates targeted poor white & Black women for forced sterilization? And then these folks have the nerve to turn around & talk about fetuses aborted by women who were actually *gasp* allowed to exercise agency over their own bodies? Misogynistic garbage.

    • Otaku fairy says:

+1. Because that’s not convenient for them- it doesn’t help them make misogyny look like some epic anti-racist woke cause.

  12. Maida says:

I think Kanye is dealing with a lot of trauma related to his mother, and that’s gotten bound up in the whole abortion issue for him. His album is supposed to be called “Donda: With Child,” and in his rally rant he talked about how she chose to have him. Basically, I think he’s enacting his unprocessed distress about his mother’s death in public, and further choosing to make it a political issue.

That he doesn’t at all seem to understand the issue, or have any grasp of the reality that anti-choice people ALSO oppose programs that help children in poverty, makes what he is doing dangerous for the country.

  13. ME says:

Oh ok so let me get this straight…he’s not ok with women having reproductive rights. Oh unless you have the money to do IVF treatments or hire a gestational carrier to carry your kids…oh and use gender selection because you wanted a “male heir”. Hypocrite to the fullest.

    • HEMP says:

The hardcore anti-choice crowd hates IVF. You can go now some deep rabbit holes about it if you happen upon any of their “life news sites”. The group he is courting with all this thinks his children are unnatural. He’ll fit right in with their anti science bullshit.

  14. nicegirl says:

    This is very sad.

  15. Stacy Dresden says:

Kanye West should keep Planned Parenthood’s name out of his mouth!

    • ME says:

I wonder how he feels knowing his wife donated money to them lol. How the hell are these two even compatible. They seem so different when it comes to fundamental beliefs.

      • Chrissy says:

The only things they have in common are the love of fame, money and conspicuous consumption. Too bad self-respect and privacy for their children aren’t on that list.

  16. Mrs. Peel says:

People with mental illness get treatment when they want it, or by force if need be. I can no longer be an excuse for Kanye. Cancelled.

  17. emu says:

I felt like that wasn’t the big issue people were worried about at the time (was it only last week?)

  18. GreenYellowBlue says:

My only concern is that Kanye will succeed in taking away enough votes so that Biden doesn’t win the election this November. That’s his main focus and he’s finding ways to get it done which is quite frightening.

    • Anonymous says:

Why? This is the mystery to me whenever I see this worry repeated over and over: what Democrat would vote for an anti-choice, pro-Trump theocratic person like Kanye THIS year of all years? With his “platform”, the only people who would vote for him were already going to vote Independent, Republican, or ironically.

    • Janet says:

The worry with Kanye is that he makes Trump seem comparatively normal.

  19. Valiantly Varnished says:

Whatever. He is too damn old to not be seeking the help he needs. A forty-something husband and father of four. Kanye has always been self-absorbed and that hasnt changed even with mental illness. I hope Kim is meeting with her lawyers right now.

  20. Veronica says:

Support progressive platforms that would improve the economic standing of black women, and then maybe a lot more of them would have those kids, jackass. Last I checked, you weren’t even raising your own. I am so tired of men’s opinions on reproductive rights. Frankly, the last group who deserves to be told shit about shit when it comes to the autonomy of their bodies are black women, who have literally spent the last few hundred years suffering through state abuse of their bodies as slave breeding stock, medical experiments, and eugenics victims.
