Construction is underway on a new training tower for the Springfield Fire Department. The $600,000 four-story tower will be built at the department’s Training Annex, 3131 S. Clifton. It will replace the tower at 1201 S. Campbell, which is more than 60-years-old.
The new tower will contain multiple stairwells, a residential training prop, ventilation props, a forcible entry training area and more.
It will be used not only by the Springfield Fire Department but also by various agencies throughout the state, including Missouri Division of Fire Safety, Ozarks Technical Community College, University of Missouri Fire and Rescue Training Institute, Greene Country Fire Training Association, as well as many individual regional fire departments and police agencies.
"This new facility in essence will become a regional training asset to introduce more firefighters in the workforce," said Springfield Fire Department Division Chief of Training Olan Morelan. "It will help ensure our firefighters are fully prepared to protect the citizens of our community in a variety of emergency situations."
The training tower, funded through the City of Springfield’s level property tax, is expected to be completed in December.
