Pitching Instructions

Posted on Thursday, Jan 14th

My writing, today, is largely about technology/online entrepreneurs and ties in with the 1M/1M project. The aim of all this is to inspire, educate, and connect entrepreneurs through case studies, interviews, profiles, and so on that present a thorough and comprehensive view into the world of entrepreneurship.

If you are an experienced entrepreneur, we try to capture the strategies, issues, and anecdotes of your success to help less experienced entrepreneurs learn from you through our Entrepreneur Journeys series. For 1M/1M premium lounge members who are working on a project and have achieved reasonable levels of validation, we often profile you on our 1M/1M Incubation Radar series, which we then expose to investors, sometimes also to potential customers. In the 1M/1M Deal Radar, we celebrate entrepreneurs who have reached $1 million in revenue, and this also exposes entrepreneurs to investors, bankers, corporate development people, M&A organizations, and customers. In addition, I often make acquisition recommendations to larger companies, and companies featured elsewhere on the blog show up in these recommendations in the Technology Stocks series.

Here is a media story on how one of our 1M/1M companies has received interest from five investors. The company was profiled in IR.

Below are comprehensive pitching instructions for working with me and my team.

(1) Deal Radar:

If your company is greater than $1 million in revenue, then we will profile you in The 1M/1M Deal Radar. Please email support@1mby1m.com with a completed questionnaire.

(2) Incubation Radar and Roundtables:

If your company is less than $1 million in revenue, you have two opportunities: Every week, as part of the 1M/1M program, I host a FREE online strategy roundtable for entrepreneurs, at which you are most welcome to pitch. This is part of our 1M/1M initiative aimed to help a million entrepreneurs reach a million dollars in annual revenue. Members of the 1M/1M premium lounge have the opportunity to be profiled on The 1M/1M Incubation Radar; this series is open only to paying members.

(3) Entrepreneur Journeys:

Besides DR and IR, I write Entrepreneur Journeys (EJ; companies with >$5 million in revenue only) and Tech Stocks (coverage of public company strategy). To pitch EJ stories, email me directly with a good description of the story angle. EJ requires a one-hour interview by phone or in person and each interview is published as a 7-part series over a week.

I am interested in interviewing the entrepreneur behind the company who can and is willing to discuss at length the nuances of the strategy and process of company building spanning topics such as bootstrapping, financing, positioning, customer acquisition, channels, team building, etc. In terms of industry segments, I am interested in Software / SaaS / Cloud, e-Commerce and Web 3.0, Mobile and Social Apps, Gaming, Healthcare IT, Online Education, Cleantech, and Outsourcing. The Entrepreneur Journeys series has already produced 4 books. You can see examples of the series on my blog. We use the EJ interviews as case studies to teach other entrepreneurs how to navigate the entrepreneurial waters.

We also have three other interview-based series topics:

(4) Thought Leaders in Cloud Computing (TLCC):

For my Thought Leaders in Cloud Computing (TLCC) series, I am looking for companies that have at least $10M in annual revenue, are leading cloud adopters, and have deployed IT and cloud-based solutions on a significant scale within their organization. I am interested in interviewing their CIOs who are insightful about cloud computing adoption specifics and are willing to discuss various aspects of cloud adoption at length – cloud strategy, vendor selection criteria, market insight, public/private/hybrid/community/open source and other cloud solutions (IaaS, PaaS, SaaS, XaaS), cloud security, cloud standards, integration with on-premise, changes brought into the organization with cloud adoption, innovative cloud adoption strategies, real benefits and ROI gained, what are the missing pieces or gaps in existing cloud solutions from the cloud adopter’s perspective, etc. In terms of industry segments, I am interested in financial, healthcare IT, gaming, media & animation, oil and gas, retail, higher education, social apps, manufacturing, electronics, and technology.

To pitch, please provide the details including revenue level, industry, and focus of the story angle in terms of the cloud computing adoption experience and email me.

The TLCC series has already covered more than 20 CIOs from various industries, including IBM, BMC, Deloitte, CA, Harvard Medical School, TeleTech, and more. You can see the published interviews on my blog.

(5) Outsourcing:

We have also been running a comprehensive series on the trends and opportunities in the outsourcing industry for a while. We are looking for additional interview candidates — CEOs of outsourcing companies — to interview for the series, especially those that align with major trends like near shoring; rural BPO; the rise of new outsourcing destinations like China, Latin America and Eastern Europe; underdeveloped United States and Europe; etc. To qualify for the series, we require that your company has a minimum $10M in revenue. We are particularly interested in unearthing trends, blue-sky opportunities and other pointers for entrepreneurs, as well as learning from the entrepreneur’s journey.

To pitch, please provide the details including revenue level, focus of the story angle and email me.

(6) Seed Capital and Business Incubators:

We also run a comprehensive interview series on Seed Capital and Business Incubators. Please look up some of our published stories, and email Irina Patterson with the story angle.

[…] I started doing my free Online Strategy Roundtables for entrepreneurs in the fall of 2008. These roundtables are the cornerstone programming of a global initiative that I have started called One Million by One Million (1M/1M). Its mission is to help a million entrepreneurs globally to reach $1 million in revenue and beyond, build $1 trillion in sustainable global GDP, and create 10 million jobs. In addition, we are offering entrepreneurs access to investors and customers through our recently launched our 1M/1M Incubation Radar series.
