Journaling Tip:
When choosing a journal with more than one purpose,  you might want to consider some of the possibilities. If you have doodling, sketching, or collage in mind, you may want to consider a blank or art journal so you have plenty of white space to work creatively and unhindered.
If you also need a personal journal for writing journal entries, a lined journal or a structured journal with prompts may be your best choice.
Here's a journaling resource link that might provide you with some of what you may be looking for.

Q: When you purchase a journal, does the image on the cover, if there is one, have any bearing on your choice? Do you prefer an image on the cover or do you like to create your own? Do you prefer one without image? Why?

My preference is often no image on the cover since I don't often find one that suits me. I don't usually like a busy or "loud" cover, since I would find that distracting.
If I do find a cool image, I consider it a great find and enjoy it each time I write an entry.

You can still email your answer to the previous Question on where you buy your journals.

You're welcome to reply to the weekly journaling question; I may share it in a future editon of Refresh Journal.

THE ARTIST
I am excited to share with you an interview as well as an image gallery showcasing 24-year-old Canadian artist,
Linzy Arnott, who was featured on the Art Therapy blog which I subscribe to.
I love her passion for art and for life.
It always pays to find your passion and then live it the best way you can.
The effect of your passion may spill on to others; you can never know how what you do well can make a difference in someone else's life.

Special Thanks goes to Debra at The Warm Milk Journal for her continued support on Twitter. She also has some fabulous journal writing prompts in her blog posts I highly recommend.

Refresh Your Home
I found this helpful, clutter clearing tip from Gretchen Rubin, best selling author of The Happiness Project. In this video clip, she shares her inside view of how outer order can contribute to inner calm. I just love Gretchen's resolutions for the week and how they can bring happiness and refreshment to your home and life!
Refresh Your Work
Do you get tired with the same old route to work? Ever think about changing things up? Well, perhaps you can try taking a different route on your commute, whether coming or going. You may discover an avenue that holds less traffic or just adds a bit of refreshment to your work day perspective. You never know what you may discover along the way. And it might make for interesting conversation around the water cooler.
Refresh Your Kids
Do toys lose their novelty and luster over time with your kids? You may want to organize their play a bit differently. Kids can often enjoy a fresh approach to their play time. Perhaps you can divide up the toys in separate bins and rotate them so they play with something different each week. Or maybe you can sort them by theme or purpose and put them in baskets; that may give them some new ideas for how they want to play with something they've had for a while. Bring the joy back to your kids' toys with these easy to implement ideas.
Refresh Yourself
If someone asked you what you're favorite song from your youth was, what would be the first thing that would come to mind? Well, take that title, jump on YouTube and see if you can pull up some Karaoke or a video clip of your favorite band and SING ALONG! Or if you run into that song on the radio while in your vehicle, turn up the volume, and croon like you're the one onstage. As my chiropractor, Dr. Von Bergen, said recently, Singing is good for the soul. So, next time you need a little lift, get ready to use your vocals. It might just bring back some long forgotten memories that give you a new perspective.
If you have a refreshing tip you'd like to share for home, work, kids, or yourself, feel free to share it by replying to this email; I may showcase your tip in a future edition of Refresh Journal!

Highlights from #JournalChat Live
The launch of #JournalChat Live on Thursday, 6/16/11 was truly refreshing! I was delighted to have folks join me on our discussion topic on using Image in our journals. That is truly a fun and creative topic, with so many applications. We chatted about using image in art journals, in travel journals and how much image can make a difference when used in addition to text.

During our chat, I posed a question: How has image benefited you the most in your journal practice?

In my experience, I find that images in our journals can help give us insight into our subconscious minds, and open up avenues we didn't know about.

Thea Miller Ryan, author of Tuesday's Pick of the Day on Travel Journals, responded to the question: "Images 'lock in' the memory for me. I'm a visual person as well as a writer."

Of course,Travel journals are the perfect place for images to showcase our experience and help us remember why it was special.

Author, Terry Gibson also replied to this question. She said, "When memories are just a feeling or sense of something, images give me those concrete impressions again. I can find words."

It is so true that a picture is worth a thousand words!
Try using an image in your journal; you may be surprised with what you discover.

Special Thanks to Lynda Monk for her article which was the source of our #JournalChat Live topic on Image.
JournalChat Pick of the Week:
I have chosen Amber's post on using "If" statements for this week's topic on #JournalChat Live.
I just love all the possibilities she presents with using these statements, whether worded as a question or as a statement, depending on the point of view you use, either from first person (I) or second person (you).
I think one of my favorites that Amber gives as an example is, "If you could change only one thing about your life, it would be ___________, because ... That statement alone can really get you thinking, which is, of course, one of the terrific benefits of using our journals: to go deep, explore, and open our perspective to so many possibilities! I would love to explore this topic with you this week.
You're welcome to read this article prior to the Live chat on Thursday, and perhaps journal about your experience with using "If" statements if you have used them already and how that approach has opened your insight and understanding to possibilities of life, from the "fantastic to the realistic." If you haven't used one, you can pick from Amber's list or make up one of your own and use it as a journaling prompt. You're welcome to share any discoveries you've made during our chat.
So join us on Thursday, June 23rd at 4 p.m. CST, for JournalChat Live on Twitter as we open a discussion on using "If" statements in journal writing.

As I sign off for this week, I'd like to leave you with this video clip of The Rose as performed by Bette Midler. It happens to be one of my all time favorites from my youth that I wanted to share with you. I especially love the 'Hopeful' image that the last line of the lyric to this song reveals: "Just remember in the winter, far beneath the bitter snows, lies the seed, that with the sun's love, in the spring becomes the rose." May this song inspire and give you a fresh perspective if you happen to feel a bit 'buried' by challenge this week.
