Who are Summer Camps for?

Science World Summer Camps have been carefully designed to target the age-specific needs and abilities of the campers. Camps admission is based on year of birth. For summer 2024, children born in the following years will be eligible for Science World summer camps:

Primary Camp
Completed Grade 1, going into Grades 2-3 in fall of 2024 (Born in 2017 or 2016)

Intermediate Camp
Completed Grade 3, going into Grades 4-5 in fall of 2024 (Born in 2015 or 2014)

For your child's safety, a basic proficiency in English is required to ensure they can follow instructions given by staff and participate in activities with other campers.

How many weeks of camp can my child attend?

Camp programming is the same each week throughout the summer. Due to high demand, each camper can only register for one week of Science World’s summer camps. We strongly recommend registering for a spot as soon as they go live. Please see the registration tab for more information.

How can I sign up for Summer Camps?

Summer camp registration will open on Wednesday, April 17, 2024.

Science World Member registration will open at 10am. Public Registration will open at 2pm. Summer Camp Registration is ONLINE ONLY.

Please Note: On April 17, 2024, we will not be able to respond to phone calls or voicemails due to higher volumes. We will get back to email inquiries as soon as possible, but response times may be delayed. If you have any inquiries about summer camps, please contact us before the registration date. We apologize for any inconvenience.

In previous years, summer camp spaces have sold out very quickly. Please check our website for any cancellations, Cancellations are re-released for sale each Tuesday between 11-12pm. If you are unable to find a space after this time, please check back the following week.

How does the registration process work?

Camps use a 2 Part Registration process. Making the purchase is Part 1 and this holds your child's spot for the selected camp and collects your payment. The purchase can be made directly from this page at the dates and times given above.

Part 2 requires you to log into the Registration Portal (opens in a new tab) to provide family information, add emergency contact names and complete your registration forms. You'll be able to do so once you complete your purchase. Review the instructions in your emailed confirmation for more information.

We suggest you complete this information directly after booking, then review and make changes to any medical information closer to the camp start date as needed. We strive to make Science World accessible and enjoyable for everyone. To ensure our camps are accessible to all participants, caregivers are asked to inform the camps team at the time of registration of any additional needs or support their child may benefit from. This allows us to collaborate with you ahead of time to ensure the appropriate support is in place for your child.

Science world reserves the right to cancel any bookings that have unfinished registrations 2 weeks before the start date of the camp.

I am a Science World Member!

Science World Members have access to additional summer camp places ahead of the general release, plus a discounted member rate. Membership perks can only be used if your Science World Membership is active for you and your camper at the time of booking.

Registration and Participation

• Science World reserves the right to refuse admission or dismiss any participants from camp in order to ensure the safety and enjoyment of all participants, or if registrant information has been falsified.
• For your child’s safety, a basic proficiency in English language is required to ensure that they can follow instructions given by staff and participate in activities. The inability to understand or communicate with our instructors presents a safety hazard and may result in dismissal from the program.
• Due to high demand, each camper can only register for one week. Camp programs and activities are the same each week throughout the summer.
• Camps are organized by birth year and have been carefully designed to target the age-specific needs and abilities of the campers. It is the responsibility of the caregiver to ensure campers are born in the correct year for the selected camp. Campers who are not the correct age will be refused admission.
• Camps use a 2 Part Registration process. Making the purchase is Part 1 and this holds your child's spot for the selected camp and collects your payment. Part 2 requires you to log into the Registration Portal to provide further information. Science world reserves the right to cancel any bookings that have unfinished registrations 2 weeks before the start date of the camp.

Cancellations

• Cancellations made up to two weeks before the start of camp will be eligible for a refund, subject to a $25 administration fee. Refunds will not usually be given if you are absent or cancel less than two weeks prior to the first day of camp. Short-notice cancellation requests or absences due to illness/emergency circumstances will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
• All Cancelations are processed at mid-day on Tuesday. This means that any refunds or monies owed will be available to you 3-5 working days from the closest Tuesday. Please keep this in mind when booking your summer camp place.
• All Summer Camp places are non-transferable.

Behaviour at Camp

• Each participant is expected to be respectful towards staff and other campers. Behaviour expectations are outlined in the camper agreement document, which must be signed by both caregiver and camper. Please review this with your child ahead of time.

Allergies

• All campers must bring their own food (lunch and two snacks). Science World does not have a nut-free food policy; however, we ask that you provide peanut/nut alternatives out of consideration for those who may have allergies. We cannot supervise food concession purchases and ask that our campers not bring money to purchase food or snacks.
• Please be aware that due to the multi-use nature of our camp rooms and site, we cannot guarantee the absence of allergens. Please contact the summer camp team if you wish to talk to us about your/your child’s specific needs.

Science World Members

• The discounted Member rate can only be used if you and your child are active Members at the time of booking.
• Members have access to a limited number of reserved spots at each week of our summer camps; being a member does not guarantee a place at summer camp. Please be aware spaces do sell out quickly.

Drop-Off & Pick-Up

• Summer camps do not currently offer before or after care. Please ensure that campers are dropped off and picked up at the designated time.
• To avoid disruption, late drop-off/early pick-up is only permissible if arranged in advance and is not always possible. Late pick-up is not possible. Unscheduled late drop-off or pick-up is subject to a $25 late fee.

Program Changes

• Camp leaders, activities, or program content may change at Science World’s discretion, without notice.
• Science World reserves the right to maintain the safety and wellbeing of its staff and campers.

Accessibility & Inclusion

• We strive to make Science World accessible and enjoyable for everyone. In order to ensure our camps are accessible to all participants, caregivers are asked to inform the camps team at the time of registration of any additional needs or support their child may benefit from. This allows us to collaborate with you ahead of time to ensure the appropriate support is in place for your child.

Public Health Measures

• Science World will continue to follow the recommendations of the Public Health Office. Any requirements around masking or other safety measures will be communicated prior to the start of camps.

Media, Privacy and Personal Data 

• Photos and video taken during the camp may be used for Science World promotional materials, publications, and advertisements. Caregivers will be given the opportunity to provide consent or to opt out.
• ASTC Science World Society protects your personal information and adheres to all legislative requirements with respect to privacy. We do not rent, sell, or trade contact information. The information you provide will be used to deliver services and keep you informed.

Do you offer before or after care?
At this time, we are not able to extend camp hours to offer care. After signing out of camp for the day, campers and their caregivers are welcome to purchase tickets to explore the rest of our facilities.

Can I enrol my child in camp for more than one week?
Due to high demand, each camper can only register for one week. Camp programs and activities are the same each week throughout the summer.

What is the camper/teacher ratio in each camp?
There are two adult staff and 1-2 youth volunteers for each camp group. We operate in a ratio of one adult per ten campers.

How many children are in each camp?
Our camp groups have a maximum size of 20 campers. Groups may join at various times of the day for breaks and lunch in shared camp spaces.

Members can register early. Is it possible that all spots may be filled before regular registration opens?
Due to high demand, we open more spots during the regular registration period that are available to everyone.

Are there any public health measures to be aware of?
Science World will continue to follow the recommendations of the Public Health Office. Any requirements around masking or other safety measures will be communicated prior to the start of camps.

Do you offer camps for other age groups?
Unfortunately, we are only offering camps for children aged 7-10 at this time.

What is pickup and drop-off like? Do I have to pay for parking?
We offer free parking during pickup and drop-off times only. For drop-off and pick-up each day, please park in a stall in either our north or south parking lots, which are accessible from Quebec Street. We will provide you with a parking pass when you check-in on your first day, which is valid only for these lots and times. Please do not park in the lay-by lane reserved for buses. Parents, guardians, and designated caregivers must sign their children in and out of camp with our staff. Please follow signage at the front of the building for check-in location.

Do the campers go off site?
Campers may go on short walking field trips to a neighbouring park or community centre. For any longer trips, caregivers will be issued with more detailed information ahead of time.

Are there waitlists available?
We do not have a waitlist. If the camp you are interested in is sold out, we recommend revisiting the website a few weeks prior to the start date to check availability.

What if I need to cancel my registration?
If you would like to cancel your registration, contact [email protected]. Please note that only cancellations made two weeks before the start of camp will be eligible for a refund.

What kind of clothing should my child wear?
We recommend that children dress comfortably and wear a light undershirt or tank top that will fit under the uniformed t-shirts we provide.

What should I pack for lunch?
Please pack a nut-free lunch, snacks, and water. We cannot supervise food concession purchases and ask that our campers not bring money to purchase food or snacks.

Do you offer support for participants with additional needs?

We pride ourselves on being a safe and inclusive environment, and we constantly strive to improve the support we can offer to individuals. Science AND Summer Camps are for everyone!
