Cloakroom Big World

Relapse release 2016 sampler, signed Cloakroom (stream new song "Big World")

Like they do every year, the consistently-great Relapse Records have released their 2016 sampler. It’s got tons of great bands, old and new, across several genres, that put new (or reissued) music out on the label this year. There’s plenty of the metal Relapse is known for, like Inter Arma, Ulcerate, Gatecreeper, Sumerlands, Ringworm, Black Tusk, Cough, Agoraphobic Nosebleed, -(16)-, Tombs, Weekend Nachos and more, plus synth wizards (and Stranger Things composers) S U R V I V E, post-rock band The Album Leaf, shoegazy bands Nothing and True Widow, and more.

Tacked on towards the end is the sludgy, doomy, shoegazy rock band Cloakroom, who actually just signed to Relapse. Their last album, 2015’s Further Out, came out on Run For Cover, and the followup to that album will come out on Relapse in mid-2017. The song that appears on Relapse’s new sampler is an alternate version of “Big World,” which will be on that new album. Cloakroom fall on the “non-metal” side, but they’re an especially great fit on Relapse. In addition to already touring with labelamtes Nothing (who also had one release on Run For Cover), earlier this year, we named them a non-metal band that metalheads should be listening to. The new song nails that mix of heavy yet melodic and atmospheric. Check it out, along with the other 40 songs on the sampler:
