Architect Emile Weil’s designs are known for their distinctly New Orleanian blend of immutability and whimsy. Particularly emblematic of his style is the Saenger Theatre’s domed ceiling, which is embedded with twinkling lights to resemble a night sky. This Uptown home’s muraled cove ceiling seems an obvious nod to the Saenger’s—and the Colonial Revival mansion designed by Weil in 1902 bears his touches throughout.

The ceiling medallions, fine millwork, and original chandeliers and mantels reveal Weil’s signature attention to detail. Other highlights include beveled glass doors, brass hardware, and a mahogany staircase.

The house has been converted into three units: a 4,000-square-foot owner’s unit and two apartments. There’s also a 540-square-foot pool house in the rear. In total, the 6,518-square-foot property on St. Charles Avenue has nine bedrooms, six bathrooms, and four kitchens.

The exterior features a wide front porch optimally situated for viewing parades, gated off-street parking, and a slim pool.
