College Football Recruiting 2012: Recruiting Grades for 2011 Coaches Poll Top 25

0 of 25

Today the USA Today Coaches' Poll was released to officially kick start the 2011 preseason portion of College Football. It's close folks, real close.

To give you a double whammy of the poll and a recruiting view on it, for this read we're going to run down and grade each of the Top 25 teams' current recruiting output for their 2012 class. Some teams are ranked lower than their current class would indicate and vice versa.

    Let's start grading!

25. Penn State

1 of 25

Joe Pa is Skyping recruits now, in an effort to keep up with the times. He has 13 commitments and his top player is OLB Camren Williams. Paterno is also recruiting WR Eugene Lewis among others.

    Grade: B

24. Texas

2 of 25

Wow, what can you say about Texas' recruiting class? It's tops in the country right now, as the 18 commit class is stellar. Mack Brown's top prospect is RB Johnathan Gray, along with DT Malcolm Brown, QB Connor Brewer and WR Cayleb Jones among others.

    Grade: A+

23. Florida

3 of 25

Florida is another team doing really well recruiting-wise right now. The Gators have 15 commitments and are led by CB Brian Poole and OT Jessamen Dunker. Will Muschamp is also in for D.J. Humphries and Nelson Agholor among others.

    Grade: A

22. Georgia

4 of 25

The Bulldogs have 10 pledges right now and their top player in OT John Theus. One of the top overall players in America, the 6'6", 295 pounder is a future starting tackle in Athens. Also watch out for DT Johnathan Taylor.

    Grade: B-

21. Missouri

5 of 25

I'm a fan of the Tigers' class. Gary Pinkel snagged the top OC prospect in the country in Evan Boehm, a great RB in Jonathan Williams and a potent QB for his offense in Maty Mauk. Can they land WR Dorial Green-Beckham?

    Grade: B

20. Mississippi State

6 of 25

Dan Mullen has aligned 15 recruits so far, with his top player being DT Nick James. James is a 6'5", 335 pound load in the defensive middle and should be a solid second-down run stuffer. Quay Evans is the top prospect on the board now.

    Grade: C

19. Auburn

7 of 25

Auburn is destined to finish in the Top 10 again this year in recruiting. The Tigers have 13 commits right now led by QB Zeke Pike and Ricardo Louis, along with TE Ricky Parks. Auburn also was a gracious host to Stefon Diggs as well.

    Grade: A-

18. Notre Dame

8 of 25

The Irish are enjoying a great recruiting run right now. Sure they lost out on Gunner Kiel, but the Irish boast Ronald Darby and Tee Shepard who are among the very best DB prospects in the country. Expect more big names to head to South Bend.

    Grade: B+

17. Michigan State

9 of 25

The Spartans have a 13 commit class headed to East Lansing next year. The top two players are speedy WR Aaron Burbridge and DE Se'Von Pittman. I expect a few more top tier players from the Midwest to declare for the Spartans over time.

    Grade: B

16. Ohio State

10 of 25

It's been a roller coaster ride for the Buckeyes, from all angles. They saw their top prospect in Kyle Kalis de-commit and pledge to Michigan and RB Bri'onte Dunn remains a concerned pledge.

    Grade: C+

15. TCU

11 of 25

The Horned Frogs are seeing what a BCS conference affiliation can do for you on the trail. It also doesn't hurt that they're coming off a Rose Bowl win too. DE Devonte Fields is the headliner of Gary Patterson's solid 12 commit class.

    Grade: B-

14. Arkansas

12 of 25

12 players have told Bobby Petrino they're all Hog, but Arkansas' class is not viewed as an upper echelon haul right now. The main player to get excited about is WR Jalen Cobb, who has good speed and quickness.

    Grade: C-

13. Virginia Tech

13 of 25

Virginia Tech has 19 commits right now and they're almost done with filling their class up. I love CB Donaldven Manning, who has great short area quickness and closing speed. Can they get Stefon Diggs to stay local?

    Grade: B

12. South Carolina

14 of 25

Steve Spurrier has snagged Marcus Lattimore, Alshon Jeffery and Jadeveon Clowney over the past couple years. This year he has gotten WR Shaq Roland.

All the before mentioned players are legends in the Palmetto State.

    Grade: B+

11. Nebraska

15 of 25

Nebraska is not doing so hot right now on the trail. Bo Pelini has gotten just five pledges and the top prospect is OT Paul Thurston. Big Red needs to get going, but they are in the thick for Andrus Peat, a five-star OT.

    Grade: D

10. Wisconsin

16 of 25

The Badgers are a candidate to repeat as Big Ten champs, but I also say watch out for Nebraska. They have eight commitments and the player I like the most is OG Dan Voltz, but QB Bart Houston will be a starter at Camp Randall.

    Grade: C

9. Texas A&M

17 of 25

The Aggies are enjoying perhaps their best recruiting run in years. Mike Sherman has almost 20 pledges with greats like QB Matt Davis and RB Trey Williams in the fold. Also look out for Kenny Marshall, Jordan Richmond and Corey Thompson on defense.

    Grade: A

8. Oklahoma State

18 of 25

The Pokes have a nine-commit class right now and have been the victims of several devastating de-commitments. Dalton Santos and Bralon Addison are two that have backed out from playing in Stillwater. But I think LaDarrell McNeil likes them alot.

    Grade: C-

7. Boise State

19 of 25

The Broncos don't get the top tier talents, and really, TCU is a better and more attractive stop on the trail. Yet BSU recruits players that want to be there, are smart, instinctive and passionate. 11 commits make up the Bronco class with CB Marcus Rios being the top player.

    Grade: C

6. Stanford

20 of 25

Stanford has an 11-commit class as well. The Cardinal have a commitment from 6'4", 225 pound LB Noor Davis, who I feel will be a complete three-down defender on The Farm. DB Alex Carter is another play that I like.

    Grade: B

5. Florida State

21 of 25

The Seminoles are dominating on the trail. Yesterday they got the top QB in the country in Jameis Winston to commit over Alabama and LSU. Toss in No.1 DE Mario Edwards, and eight other players inside the ESPNU 150 and you see why they have the grade they have.

    Grade: A+

4. LSU

22 of 25

The Tigers have 18 commitments already and we're only in August. They're coming off a great 2011 class and this class is pretty nice too. The top players are WR Avery Johnson, Patrick Peterson's brother and LB/DE Toshiro Davis.

    Grade: B+

3. Oregon

23 of 25

Chip Kelly is fighting some serious rumors and potential looming sanctions from his previous recruiting efforts. But as the class stands right now, Oregon has eight pledges. You have to really get jacked up about athletic QB Jake Rodrigues.

    Grade: C

2. Alabama

24 of 25

The Tide, while they may have struck out on Jameis Winston yesterday, are doing extremely well on the trail. 14 pledges make up the class, with two great standouts in LB Reggie Ragland and DS/ATH Eddie Williams. Alabama is on their way to another Top Five or higher class.

    Grade: A

1. Oklahoma

25 of 25

The top team in the country has 12 commitments right now. They lost out on Gunner Kiel, but you still have players like John McGee, Durron Neal, Ty Darlington, Alex Ross, Sterling Shepard, Trevor Knight and Charles Tapper.

    Grade: B+
