- YC CheahAugust 4, 2015Lovely castle. Enjoyed exploring its compound. Castle interior is equally intriguing with info boards provided. It's so beautiful now, after several years of restoration. Must visit even having to payUpvoted Mar 25
- Fernando LemosOctober 5, 2017Easily the best castle we visited in Japan. The grounds are huge, can take hours to see everything. Interior is impressive, great opportunity to see how the castles truly were inside.
- Jose CaballeroMay 26, 2015Arrive early. No later than 10:00am to avoid the crowds. Just after the ticket counter, on the left, you can request an awesome English-speaking guide for free. Makes for a much better experience!!
- Eefee T.September 28, 2017Himeji is one of the few original feudal castles in Japan & amazing to visit. Go if you love Japanese history (Tokugawa related) or to learn about the building & its restoration (woodwork and masonry)
- CarolMay 27, 2016Be prepared to climb a lot of tiny and steep stairs! If it's a hot day bring a fan and an umbrella. Impressive castle, great place to visit. Entrance fee is ¥ 500
- Per BNovember 13, 2015Castle is nicest on the outside. Its been renovated several times but finished june 2015. Come early or right before closing, it will be packed and the stairs inside generate alot of queing.
- Sam GrSeptember 4, 2016Giant wooden castles were all the rage in 17th century Japan, and this one is the biggest. Great view from the 7th (top) floor!
- David ThairMay 22, 2016Once inside the main keep, you'll need to take your shoes off. Plastic bags to carry them are provided, but it's much easier if you make sure there will be space in your own bag.
- Vivi WigunaDecember 20, 2016Ask for one day free bicycle in Himeji tourist information. You can ride it to the castle. The castle was really cool but not reccomended for people with weak knee because the stairs was really steep.
- sedaApril 28, 2019I believe it doesn’t really worth spending hours trying to climb the top of the castle. It is worth visiting from the outside if you are short on time in Japan
- Valerio FalluccaAugust 16, 2015If you want breathe the real Samurai atmosphere, this is your place. It's the only one preserved ancient castle in Japan and just refurbished. It takes only 1 hour of Shinkansen from Kyoto
- JMarch 5, 2018One of famous castlse in Japan. Make a visit to know how Japanese built this grant building by stones & woods.
- Lionel LimJune 2, 20191000¥ fee for entrance into the castle. Add another 40¥ for the nearby garden. The route through the castle should take about 1.5 hours if the place is jot crowded. Arrive early to avoid them.
- Caleb LeungDecember 24, 2015The must go place when you go to Himeji. There are some voting showing that it is the best Castle in Japan, overtake Kumamoto Castle
- Jean-Noël VignaroliOctober 20, 2015Be patient, and bring some water if you visit in summer. It's insanely hot at that time. Worth the wait though !
- Lisa StarbucksApril 5, 2017Save yourself the lining up to get up the castle. It's really not worth it because there is just stairs to climb and no platform at the top. The complex itself is the stunning part!
- AldonaAugust 14, 2016We decided against going inside as the entrance fee is now ¥1000, a bit over our budget, and we'd already seen the one in Nagoya. Very pretty on the outside, though!
- EmrahSeptember 21, 2016So close to Kyoto wth Shinkansen, a must see place you must visit around 2 pm cause closing time is 16:30
- Viktor KiyashkoJuly 7, 2015The nicest one! You can skip all the other in Nagoya and Osaka. All the same type. Nothing interesting inside except from the views :-)
- J CubeJune 15, 2017Unique... beautiful...a must go! Not suitable for elderly. Have to climb up and down a lot of stairs.
- Kevin ErguizaApril 5, 2016The castle is really beautiful except for the fact that one side of it is still under repair. There's a zoo nearby to kill off time.
- Selipar JepunAugust 28, 2015Worth a visit. The entrance fee is cheap and the castle is stunning beautiful.
- Cristiano BettaMarch 29, 2016Very very busy but worth the wait. Takes about 2 to 3 hour including queueing.
- Wendi WheelerMay 21, 2011Make sure you climb all the way to the top! The view of Himeji-jo is amazing!
- Ollie MartinApril 10, 2013The castle was used as a 'ninja training school' in the James Bond film You Only Live Twice (1967)
- Szabolcs 'csapos' PerlakiMay 24, 2012buy the combined ticket to the castle and Koko-en garden, it is really worth it!
- Alex JOctober 21, 2015Nice to see on the outside, but not really sure if it was worth the 1000YEN to enter. We were expecting more stuff to see inside.
- LiuDecember 28, 2016It's rated the best castle in Japan. Like its inner structure from the construction basis. But don't expect too much for the inner part. It's more for defense than residential use.
- Bilawal HameedMay 14, 2018I would argue it's not worth 1000JPY when you can't go inside the main castle itself. You just walk around it. But if you don't go in, your visit to Himeji is very short and will feel unfulfilling.
Upvoted Apr 6
