College Football Recruiting 2012: Predicting the Biggest Commitments of August

0 of 6

So with August approaching here very soon, that means another oncoming month of commitments. As each month passes, we see big name after big name come off the board and making their choices.

For this read I'm going give you several big time recruits that are expected to make their commitment in the eighth month of the year. So let's get this thing started, shall we?

Here are some key names that will likely make a commitment in August.

6. William Mahone, RB

1 of 6

Mahone was scheduled to make his announcement August 7th but that has been delayed. He says he's under a ton of stress right now and needs more time to think.

Whether he makes his decision in August is now up in the air, but I'll stick at the bottom of this list just for good measure.

He's down to Penn State, Michigan State, Notre Dame and Pitt. Speculation is wide on where he is leaning.

5. Eli Harold, OLB/DE

2 of 6

Harold will honor his mother and make his choice known on August 2nd. He's an explosive pass-rusher that can double as an OLB or DE.

He's down to a top three of Virginia (the in-state favorite), Florida and Penn State. Florida is a prime candidate as they may have snuck in and passed Virginia.

Whoever lands him will be getting one of the most explosive defensive players in the country.

4. Chris Black, WR

3 of 6

Black has gone back and forth between Florida State and Alabama. Florida had gotten into the race for a short while, but this is a Crimson Tide vs. Seminoles stand off.

Black has taken a ton of unofficial visits to both schools all spring and says it's 50-50 between both.

A decision should come on August 24th according to Black and Scout.com.

3. Geno Smith, CB

4 of 6

Smith is a big time CB prospect that can get it done of the perimeter as a sticky cover corner. He received offers from a slew of schools but is down to a likely final two.

That final two consists of Auburn and Alabama. Fans from both sides have gone back and forth on where Smith is leaning and even he has as well.

Smith says he likely will make his decision in a few weeks, within the month of August. It's safe to say that Smith will be playing in the Iron Bowl for the next few years, but for what school?

2. D.J. Humphries, OT

5 of 6

Humphries has the most athleticism in the country among OL prospect in the country and will easily be a LT in college. Where that college is will soon be known, like real soon.

    Say, August 5th soon.

Humphries is down to Florida, Tennessee, Auburn, South Carolina and Clemson. While the latter four are all great choices and could land him, I think Florida is the favorite and has been for a long time.

1. Jameis Winston, QB

6 of 6

It looks like an ESPN announcement is where we're headed with Winston and it looks like the date will be August 3rd. Winston is considered by some to be a superior prospect to Gunner Kiel, who has freshly pledged to Indiana.

Winston has said he is about 90 percent sure he knows where he's going and it is between a final three of Alabama, LSU and Florida State.

Personally I would rank it: Alabama as the favorite, then Florida State and LSU a close third. But we'll know August 3rd how it shakes out.
