Game of Thrones Actor Talks Incest, Murder and Fandom

Nikolaj Coster-Waldau plays the king-slaying, incestuous Ser Jaime Lannister of the Kingsguard in the HBO series Game Of Thrones. Coster-Waldau stopped by the Wired Cafe at Comic-Con 2011 to talk about his character, the rabid following the series has garnered and his own personal reactions to some of the adult-themed scenes.

Coster-Waldau says he’s amazed by the show’s response. “If people are passionate about the show, that’s a fantastic thing. Even if they don’t like the direction the show’s taking, the fact that they get that invested in the characters, that it almost seems like you’ve killed one of their loved ones — I’m so grateful to be part of this”, he said.

The show’s character-driven plot twists often leave viewers slack-jawed. Its adult themes take the show into unexpected territory, especially for TV. In this video interview we asked Nikolaj Coster-Waldau about his “close” relationship with his sister and why his character isn’t such a bad guy, despite the fact that he throws young children out of windows. And don’t worry if you were squeamish about the scene featuring a breast-feeding 9-year-old — so was the crew.
