Loop video art fest looks back 50 years
Video art is no longer young, and is reaching 50 years. Yet, the Loop video art festival is celebrating this fact this year with a special section devoted to the history of the discipline while celebrating its own 15-year anniversary. The programme from May 18 until 27 takes place in a score of museums and centres in Barcelona
The main attraction is the focus on the art's pioneers, from the 1960s, ‘70s and ‘80s, such as Eugeni Bonet, a specialist of video art's “golden age”. “It was a moment of great excitement about the discovery of the new medium,” says Bonet. The festival has digitised a set of 70 historic video art documents on the Loop website, an “invitation to research,” says another pioneer, Antoni Mercader.
