Vince, Mandhana, Mills, Wyatt feature in Southern Brave’s 21 retentions for The Hundred
Many of the biggest names in world cricket are returning to The Ageas Bowl in 2022 as Southern Brave today named the first 21 players in its combined men’s and women’s team squads for the second edition of The Hundred.
Southern Brave men retain 11 players from the squad that won the inaugural The Hundred final at Lord’s last August, including local legend James Vince, cult spin hero Jake Lintott, and T20 World Cup semi-finalist Tymal Mills. England pace bowler and World Cup-winner Jofra Archer has also re-signed for his home team as Southern Brave’s centrally contracted men’s player.
In the women’s team, Southern Brave’s squad, that reached last year’s The Hundred final, retain England World Cup winner Anya Shrubsole, and feature the number four ranked T20 International batter Smriti Mandhana who returns to The Ageas Bowl after scoring 167 runs with a best of 78 last year. Australian leg spinner Amanda-Jade Wellington, Brave’s leading wicket taker in 2021, and the Southern Vipers and England batting powerhouse Maia Bouchier join Shrubsole in the list of 10 players retained by Southern Brave women.
The Hundred returns in August, mixing fast-paced, world-class cricket with music and family friendly entertainment off the pitch. This year there will be even more activities to entertain families inside The Ageas Bowl.
Vince, Lintott, Mills and Archer are joined in the retained Southern Brave men’s squad by fast bowlers Chris Jordan, George Garton, and Craig Overton, batters Tim David, Ross Whiteley, and Alex Davies, plus Australian all-rounder Marcus Stoinis.
The women’s squad sees Shrubsole, Mandhana, Wellington, and Bouchier joined by England batters Danni Wyatt and Sophia Dunkley, fast bowlers Lauren Bell and Tara Norris, all-rounder Paige Scholfield, and wicket-keeper Carla Rudd.

Southern Brave wicket-keeper Carla Rudd said: "I am delighted to retain my contract with the Southern Brave for the 2022 season. I look forward to playing with, and against, the best players in the world.
"We will strive to make the final again this year but hopefully this time we can go one better and win the trophy."
Tara Norris, fast bowler for Southern Brave, said: "I am absolutely delighted to be retained by the Southern Brave and can’t wait for an exciting summer ahead!”
Southern Brave’s programme of games at The Ageas Bowl starts on Wednesday 3rd August as the men’s team take on Welsh Fire in the competition’s opening fixture. The three double header days with men’s and women’s fixtures are then set for Friday 12th August against London Spirit, Thursday 18th August versus Manchester Originals, and Thursday 25th August against Trent Rockets.
What’s more, The Ageas Bowl also hosts The Hundred Eliminator on Friday 2nd September. The Eliminator will be another huge double-header with the teams finishing second and third in both the men’s and women’s group stages facing off for a spot in The Hundred Final.
