Why this petition matters

Started by Jane Richards

Coca-Cola is the world's largest beverage company and sells a staggering 2 billion drinks every day! Many of those beverages contain a lot of sugar – even the smallest can of coke contains 10 teaspoons of sugar, twice the recommended daily amount for teenagers.

Globally, we are suffering from an obesity epidemic that is leading to a massive rise in the rate of diabetes. For example, an American child now has a 4 in 10 chance of developing diabetes.

Coca-Cola took the lead with its responsible marketing policy that does not allow direct advertising to children under 12. In California, there has been a drop in soda consumption of about a quarter in children under 12. In contrast, teenagers are drinking 10% more sugar-sweetened drinks.

In the U.S, beverage companies spend nearly $400 million dollars on marketing soda to teenagers annually, and teenagers see an average of 400 TV adverts each year.

Let us send a message to Coca-Cola asking them to extend their ban on advertising to ALL children under the age of 18.

Thanks for your support!
