Android Marshmallow is now on 7.5 per cent of active devices, nearly one year after the OS was first announced at Google’s annual I/O developer conference.

The latest numbers come just two weeks before Google I/O 2016 starts in San Francisco, where the search giant is expected to release Android N.

According to Android Developers dashboard, Android Lollipop, which was announced in 2014, still runs on almost 36 per cent of devices, while KitKat OS, which is three years old, is active on 32.5 per cent devices.

In order to fix the problem of Android fragmentation where many smartphones are still running on older versions of the OS, Google had announced an early preview of Android N for its Nexus devices.

Festive offer

This is the first time that a developer preview has been made available ahead of the official I/O conference. Google also announced that Android N preview will be available for Sony Xperia Z3.
