ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) >> New York’s agriculture commissioner is congratulating a farm-based Hudson Valley distillery for winning a national award for its vodka.

Commissioner Richard Ball visited the facility of Hudson Valley Distillers in the town of Clermont, N.Y., on Tuesday. The distillery that opened in 2013 won the Best of Class Vodka award at the American Distilling Institute’s 2016 conference in San Diego last month.

The distillery makes vodka from Hudson Valley apples, gin from local grapes, and applejack and whisky from local ingredients.

New York’s craft beverage industry has blossomed in recent years. Since 2011, the craft distillery industry has grown from 10 facilities to 84.
