Paying homage to teachers

Letter to the editor

GREEN BAY - I pay homage to all public school teachers and the school support staff during this Teacher Appreciation Week and throughout the year.

Teaching.

Public schools in the United States are unique, for they are the one place that exemplifies our nation’s population, a place where all children are welcomed and educated.

I have been fortunate to have been a public school educator for 50 years and now am honored to serve as a volunteer, part of the Brown County Volunteer Center’s Reading Coaches program.

Aldo Leopold Community School is where I assist students. The school is a family of about 400 students and their teachers, 4K through 8th grade. The students are given the responsibility of setting expectations and being accountable to their parents and staff.

I assist students in Hilarie Rath’s first-grade of 28 children. Hilarie challenges and loves the boys and girls. Her preparation and knowledge results in an activity-based learning environment. Like all the teachers we honor this week, Hilarie strives to motivate and encourage each student to reach his/her potential.
