Millville man charged in second shooting case

MILLVILLE - A 23-year-old city man already in jail on an attempted murder charge from an April 19 incident in Fairfield was arrested again on Wednesday in a shooting incident that police say took place later that same day in South Millville.

Detective Lt. Ross Hoffman on Thursday said the new charges, including attempted murder, filed against Jarred Brown are connected to a shooting that occurred 2:30 a.m. on April 19 on the 200 block of South 4th Street.

Hoffman said 18 shell casings were recovered at that scene and two occupied houses were struck by bullets. No one was wounded, he said.

A half-hour earlier, authorities allege, Brown was on King Drive in Fairfield shooting at a residence. A 50-year-old woman was shot in the hip in that incident, which the New Jersey State Police are handling. He is charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault and weapon offenses.

“We were able to link the two cases together after speaking with the NJSP detectives,” Hoffman said.

Hoffman said Brown additionally is charged with attempted murder, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and certain persons not to possess a weapon.

Brown was processed at the jail on the new charges, and bail was set at $1 million.
