Fresh off his popular Sound+Vision: Watching Popular Music course, Geoff Pevere returns to provide a fascinating global survey of the most radical and rich period in world and movie history. The decades after World War II were a time of possibility and revolution, and the cinema was an art form capable of capturing and responding to that change. The movies grew and expanded, not only reflecting a drastically altered world but shattering the frame through which we looked at it. From the groundbreaking performances of Brando, Nicholson and Catherine Deneuve to the provocative films of Kubrick, Altman and Godard, these clip-driven lectures will provide a lively and compelling tour designed to generate discussion, illuminate the present through the past, and send you away hungry to watch great films.
This course is led by film writer Geoff Pevere, who has been writing, teaching and broadcasting about movies, media and popular culture for more than thirty years. A former movie critic with The Toronto Star and regular contributor to The Globe and Mail, he is also the author of two books on Toronto's cinematic legacy, Toronto on Film and Don Shebib's Goin' Down the Road.
Doors will open one hour before the first class. Registrants will receive supplementary materials in advance of their first class.
