My name is Hakeem Onibudo and I am the Artistic Director and Founder of Impact Dance. Impact Dance is a street dance organisation, Hip-Hop theatre company and educational facilitator which started in 1995.

Impact Youth was the foundation of the Impact Dance Company in its inaugural year in 1995. From there it has grown to be one of the most successful Street Dance Youth companies of its time. In 2005 Impact Youth became the first London company to represent their region at England’s National Youth Dance Festival (now known as U.Dance) in Birmingham.

The youth company has performed at various venues and events and worked with large institutions including: NEC and NIA Birmingham, Sadler’s Wells, Peacock theatre, Nickelodeon TV, Royal Ballet School, C4 amongst others.

Impact Youth creates dance theatre pieces combining a range of different styles including hip-hop, street dance, contemporary movement and physical theatre to create narratives.

We work with young people aged 11-17, training them once a week and equipping them with the fundamentals of Hip-Hop and Street Dance. Many of the young people we work with come from marginalised backgrounds and many cannot afford to take up full time dance training.  We therefore, as an organisation, welcome young people from all backgrounds and aim to support them through their academic years at school. Using dance as the parallel medium we aim to produce "Citizens" and "Fully Functioning Individuals" in society.

Over the last 20 Years we have had many success stories of young teenagers going on to become successful.

Annaliese Dayes: (Joined Impact Youth at age 14) Now currently an international model and presenter and was seen on Tyra Banks "America's Next Top Model"

Vicki Igbokwe: (Joined Impact Youth at Age 19) Now Creative Director of own company Uchenna. Was choreographer for 2012 London Olympics and Para Olympics.

Anthony Duncan: (Joined Impact Youth at age 17) Now in music industry as well as lead instructor for Pyscle London. Was an original member of Street Dance giants FLAWLESS who made the finals of Britain's Got Talent.

Impact Youth have been selected to represent London at the forthcoming National Youth Dance Festival U.Dance at the Lowry in Salford, Manchester 8-10 July 2016.
We will be taking 14 young people and 5 adults from the Impact Team.  The U.Dance event charges £115.00 per person to cover accommmodation and food for the weekend. This is a total of £2,185. We are trying to raise £1500 from Gofundme to make this happen. Our aim is to also have a Dance-Athon event ourselves to raise the rest of the amount.

Impact Youth does not and has never recieved funding from any funding body. In 20 years we have never charged our young people for the training we give. We have been fortunate to have a strong working partnership wth the school Chelsea Academy who allow us to rehearse at their venue in return for allowing our services to be inclusive. Our work in the community we deem as IMPERATIVE. We do it as a necessity not a job.

Our deadline to get the funds is July 7th 2016

This project means so much to me and the company and everyone  who has been involved in Impact over the years. During the preliminary round at Laban our group was up against the likes of English National Ballet, Shift from the Place, Candoco, East London Dance and more. Many of these companies had older members than our relatively young company and also recieve funding to make things happen. However with our limited resources but great big passion we managed to create a piece which was selected to represent London at the Lowry theatre in July.
Our youngest dancer is 11 and our oldest dancer is 17.

For me it is about the young people and giving them the opportunities to grow as individuals and a team and take this invaluable opportunity to meet fellow companies from around the country. Impact Youth is and has been a major beacon of light for the arts in London and beyond, and when we asses what we have achieved with no regular funding we are very proud to be assoicated with this cause and our legacy.

Please support these young people
